Hello,

This post to know what the real difference between the performance of VMWare Vmotion and Proxmox Live Migration.

Are the performances (about vm accessibility/downtime and migration time) similar?

Would Proxmox VE be a competitor of VMWare Infrastrcuture 3 in few years or it is not the objective/market?

Vmotion does not move any data. Proxmox Migration really moves the data, no need of expensive SAN equipment. As far as I know, some time ago VMware adds a feature called storage vmotion - here the data is also moved.

Proxmox VE is a GPL software VMWare not. thats the big difference. If you can do a project better with VMware or Proxmox VE depends on your needs - for a fast growing community Proxmox VE is the choice number one.
