Kernel Panic on Blade BL460cG6

Hi all,
I´m using Proxmox on Blade BL460 since version 1.8.
When upgrading to 2.0, it worked fine. However, after 2.1 upgrading I found NIC driver (BN2X) collapses and gives "KERNEL PANIC" freezing the host.

Has anyone experimented the same issue?

Regards,
Juan

which kernel do you tried?

can you try the kernel from pvetest?
(pve-kernel-2.6.32-15-pve: 2.6.32-78)

Although I cant copy the error message, I found something about bnx2x_set_power_state and then kernel panic.

What else can I provide in order to solve that issue?

Thanks!

I do not know this boxes in detail but if you see anything regarding power-saving in BIOS, disable it.

Re: AW: Kernel Panic on Blade BL460cG6

Although I´ve disabled power saving boxes and upgraded to pvetest, it remains freezing the server.
The only error I see is something about ub_skb_uncharge , IRQ and then it freezes.

It started to happen since 2.1 was installed. It worked fine when running Proxmox 2.0

What could be wrong?

Thanks :)

Re: AW: Kernel Panic on Blade BL460cG6

As soon as Proxmox 2.2 was released I´ve tried it to check if the NIC would work without kernel panic. However, Proxmox 2.2 kernel gives the same error that Proxmox 2.1 gave!
It is working with Proxmox 2.0

Any ideas?

Re: AW: Kernel Panic on Blade BL460cG6

Hi,

we are experiencing (very likely to be related) issues with our BLC460C Gen8, which the kernel also loads the bnx2x module for.
The kernel panic appears seemingly at random but fixed tasks (meaning we can produce it at will).

- apt-get update works (this causes network traffic)
- apt-get (dist|full)upgrade panics as soon as it tries to download perl-modules (every single time, its the 6th packet thats being downloaded)
- manually wget'ing packets has worked fine so far, as we have manually downloaded the latest pve-firmware and pve-kernel from pve (not pvetest), installed them and booted from them.

Code:
pveversion -v
pve-manager: 2.2-32 (pve-manager/2.2/3089a616)
running kernel: 2.6.32-17-pve
proxmox-ve-2.6.32: 2.2-80
pve-kernel-2.6.32-16-pve: 2.6.32-80
pve-kernel-2.6.32-17-pve: 2.6.32-83
lvm2: 2.02.95-1pve2
clvm: 2.02.95-1pve2
corosync-pve: 1.4.4-1
openais-pve: 1.1.4-2
libqb: 0.10.1-2
redhat-cluster-pve: 3.1.93-1
resource-agents-pve: 3.9.2-3
fence-agents-pve: 3.1.9-1
pve-cluster: 1.0-34
qemu-server: 2.0-62
pve-firmware: 1.0-21
libpve-common-perl: 1.0-36
libpve-access-control: 1.0-25
libpve-storage-perl: 2.0-34
vncterm: 1.0-3
vzctl: 4.0-1pve2
vzprocps: 2.0.11-2
vzquota: 3.1-1
pve-qemu-kvm: 1.2-7
ksm-control-daemon: 1.1-1

Neither kern.log nor dmesg show anything after the kernel panic so I dont know how to get you a precise kernel panic error text...?

Re: AW: Kernel Panic on Blade BL460cG6

The kernel panic error showed on main console -the one provided by HP Blade Center- and gave an error with bnx2x module.

After wget'ing the packages you get the system completely upgraded or the kernel panic keeps?

Thanks ,

Juan Ignacio

Re: AW: Kernel Panic on Blade BL460cG6

do you use bonding?

The kernel panic error showed on main console -the one provided by HP Blade Center- and gave an error with bnx2x module.
The problem is that once the system crashes you can't scroll back in the ilo console anymore.
After wget'ing the packages you get the system completely upgraded or the kernel panic keeps?
We installed firmware and kernel, yes. But downloading every single packet manually is really not what we want. Also who is to say that the system would be stable for normal VM usage afterwards since it crashes on network load.

At first we did, but we disabled it again, thinking that it might have been the problem, but the problem still occurs.
