Hi all,

I was wondering whether jumbo frames actually benefits for cluster communication and migration given todays support for LSO in nics. My current cluster communicates over a dedicated vlan on 1 Gbit nics so jumbo frames is a possibility, but is it worth the effort?

we still use jumboframes of 9k for Cluster + Ceph frontend + Ceph backend. We do not bother with any other vlans. But we have multiple bonded 40G links or bonded dual 10G. all of em on openvswitch, so it might not exactly be your use-case.

They are still avantages :

less overhead beucase less ethernet and ip headers
less packets, so for the switchs is better too.

(Now on 1gb, maybe not too much benefit, but on 10gb I always enable them)
