Hello,

I have version PVE 2.1.1 installed. I wanted to know if I will be able to directly upgrade to version 3.0.

Also, if not using the in-place (script) upgrade, will I still be able to migrate VMs and containers from the old servers (ver 2.1.1) to the new (ver 3.0)?

Thanks!

Oren

Since you're running 2.1.1 it's not a direct upgrade to 3.0 but also not complex or difficult.

You'll first make a apt-get dist-upgrade from 2.1.1 to 2.3, then check your progress. Reboot into 2.3 and run the 2.3 -> 3.0 script.

An extra step but simple all-the-same. Spelled out here -> Proxmox Wiki Upgrade Docs

Actually, you could've jumped up to 2.3 a long time ago with a dist-upgrade but since Proxmox rarely complains and runs well... I understand.

EDIT: Your 2.1.1 VMs & containers should make the journey without issue. Just be sure to back 'em up. No need to tempt Fate :p
