Hello everyone,
I recently got a dedicated server and decided to install Proxmox VE 8.1 as my hypervisor since I have used Proxmox VE 6/7 in the past for my home lab.
For the dedicated servers I have 3x IPv4 addresses and 1x IPv6 /56 network address.
The VMs with an IPv4 addresses will have there IPv4 and IPv6 addresses statically assigned since the VMs with an IPv4 address should not change there IPv4/IPv6 addresses.
For the rest of the VMs am planning to only add one IPv6 address to each VM as they don’t need a IPv4 address and if they get an different IPv6 address every once in a while it is fine. (Access and or use of these VMs is not dependent on a not changing IP address.)
Proxmox VE 8 added support for SDN via the GUI and I am trying to configure it so that my IPv6 /56 address can be allocated to my VMs via DHCP in subnets of /64.
I followed this guide: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Setup_Simple_Zone_With_SNAT_and_DHCP
The issue that I ran into is that my gateway for the IPv6 addresses is on a different subnet.
My IPv6 /56 address is like: 2a02:c205:****:**00::
And my IPv6 Gateway is: fe80::1
So my question is, is what I am trying to do possible (and if so how can I get around the issue that the gateway is on a different subnet) with SDN or can it only be used to create local networks so that the VMs can talk with each other.
I am free to use my iPv6 address however I want from my hosting company, but this also means that there is no DHCP for the IPv6 addresses that allows DHCP assigning of the IPv6 /56 address into 256 IPv6 /64 addresses.
