Hey everyone.

I currently have 2 servers:
Dell R620 SFF:
running ESXI 6
H710 Mini card
10GBe card
hosting about 20 VM's

Custom build 4U 36 bay Server
running FreeNAS
LSI HBA in IT mode
10GBe card
zfs HDD Storage in RAID10 config
zfs SSD Storage in RAID10 config

I want to migrate away from VMWare (yearly fees) and possibly goto Proxmox.

Questions are:
should I migrate both servers to Proxmox?
Just the Dell server?
Are there advantages from switching from FreeNAS to Prox?

Edit: here are my feature flags from FreeNAS
[root@freenas ~]# zpool get all Media | grep feature
Media feature@async_destroy enabled local
Media feature@empty_bpobj enabled local
Media feature@lz4_compress active local
Media feature@multi_vdev_crash_dump enabled local
Media feature@spacemap_histogram active local
Media feature@enabled_txg active local
Media feature@hole_birth active local
Media feature@extensible_dataset enabled local
Media feature@embedded_data active local
Media feature@bookmarks enabled local
Media feature@filesystem_limits enabled local
Media feature@large_blocks enabled local
Media feature@sha512 enabled local
Media feature@skein enabled local

[root@freenas ~]# zpool get all SSD | grep feature
SSD feature@async_destroy enabled local
SSD feature@empty_bpobj active local
SSD feature@lz4_compress active local
SSD feature@multi_vdev_crash_dump enabled local
SSD feature@spacemap_histogram active local
SSD feature@enabled_txg active local
SSD feature@hole_birth active local
SSD feature@extensible_dataset enabled local
SSD feature@embedded_data active local
SSD feature@bookmarks enabled local
SSD feature@filesystem_limits enabled local
SSD feature@large_blocks enabled local
SSD feature@sha512 disabled local
SSD feature@skein disabled local

I'm sure I will have more questions, anyway, thank you in advance.

Proxmox VE is a datacenter-grade virtualization platform, FreeNAS is a datacenter-grade storage appliance/platform, so it's pretty different. You can install all the commandline daemons that FreeNAS uses (or at least similar ones) on Proxmox VE, yet there is no GUI for that and strictly speaking this is part of the underlying Debian, not Proxmox VE itself. It is work and it does not have any benefits besides having PVE on that node as well and all the manual work you have to put it. I'd stick with the working FreeNAS environment and "just" use PVE on the dell servers.

Keep in mind:
For working HA in a Cluster with PVE and a shared storage, 3 nodes are required for quorum purposes.

I did not know this. good to know... I do have another Dell R420 but dont feel like hooking that up just for HA since nothing is MC.

Thank you for the insight and advice.
