Install Issues

I am trying to install latest proxmox 5.2 on a Supermicro system with 12x hot swap 3.5 bays and a SAS 9210-8I SATA/SAS controller connected to them.

https://www.broadcom.com/products/storage/host-bus-adapters/sas-9210-8i

I am not trying to use the controller for raid just as a sata controller. I am trying to use the setup iso installer to install on 6 of the 4TB sata drives as a zfs raid 10 like array. It sees all the drives fine in the setup. It stalls forever at making system bootable. After it says its done the system will not boot.

Any ideas?

did you pack the system on a 6 disk ( 3 mirror vdev's) ????

I would recommend to pack the OS onto a mirror of 2 disks (they can be small)

Also look into the BIOS Boot setup. Supermicro BIOS tends to play dice with boot disks on a SAS HBA

Oh man, install your OS on a single mirror (2 disks). Don't go down your current path. It won't be smooth for your whole system nor for your sanity.

By the way the 9210-8i can handle hundreds of disks, it is just a matter of the SAS Backplane in the computer. And as Mihai writes: Pack the OS (and nothing else) on a 2 disk mirror, use the other disks for data.

What about installing proxmox on a SATA DOM and using the ZFS array for the VM's?
