[SOLVED] How To Backup The Full VM

Dear All,

We are planning to re-configure one of our ProxMox Servers. To avoid losing data I want to have your opinion about how to Backup my VMs with all the disks which are connected or mounted to the VMs below is an example of our vms:



I am aware of how to backup them either from GUI or command line and we have to check that the backup is allowed for all the disks within the advance options as you can see in the below photo:



At the end we will backup them into a NAS or an External storage.

Could you please tell me what else we should think of, your help, advices and comments are really appreciated.

After making the backups, do a restore (without overwriting the current VMs) and verify that the restored VMs are complete and work. Maybe you have to turn off the existing VM to prevent IP-address clashes etc. This way, you will test the backups and practice what to do to restore them if something goes wrong.
Those backups will not help you in undoing the configuration changes to the Proxmox server, if those go wrong or don't work a you expect! To be really safe: Create a new Proxmox server with the configuration changes. Maybe turnoff the old server so the new server and VMs don't conflict with the old ones. Restore the backups on the new server and verify that everything works. Then remove the old Proxmox server or if it does not work as expected: simply turn off the new one and restart the old server.

@avw Actually we do have a second Proxmox server and yes we will do that. to be sure that the backup is working correctly! good point thanks a lot.
