FQDN value for a local server

I want to install Proxmox VE 1.8 on a local server (with an IP address 10.0.1.10).
The install wizard asks me a FQDN. I have to fill in something otherwise the wizard won't go further.
If I fill in a fake value: for example www.test.org then my Linux user becomes "www".

I will port-forward my public IP address to this server (or better said to the container with the application) so I am able to connect from the outside.
What values do I have to fill in for a local server?

The way I have my proxmox server setup I can put in any FQDN name like banana.republic.com required during the proxmox installation.

As for my Debian running containers this is where I setup a real FQDN I have already registered with godaddy.

Edit /etc/hosts.

vi /etc/hosts

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
123.123.123.123 server1.example.com
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts

Now run
echo server1.example.com > /etc/hostname
/etc/init.d/hostname.sh start

Afterwards, run
hostname -f
The output should be server1.example.com

Like you my proxmox server is behind a firewall so all I have to do next is to port-forward any traffic I want to my Debian container assigned IP like port 80, 25, 22, and so on.
