I had such a "hang" again today ... so also "ethtool -K eno1 tso off gso off " did not helped with me :-(
kernel 5.3.10-1-pve

Are you applying it in the network config, any nic reset will cause it to be lost hence you need to enter it into your network config as an if up so its applied every time.

basically the host was running without reboot since I entered the command ... How and where I would need to add it? Could you please tell me that and I will try it.

Running Proxmox 6.1-5 Kernel 5.3.13-1-pve
Problems started since weekend.

Bash:
root@pve:~# ethtool -K eno1 tso off gso off
-bash: ethtool: command not found

Any other idea?
EDIT: I had to install ethool by using
Bash:
apt-get install ethtool

I'm getting this same "eno1: Detected Hardware Unit Hang" in the syslog regularly. I haven't yet experimented with disabling the features of the NIC but I did notice that my NIC (on a fairly new Intel NUC8I5BEH) is listed as follows:

Code:
# lspci -v | grep Ethernet
00:1f.6 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection (6) I219-V (rev 30)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection (6) I219-V

And the driver being used by the device is at version 3.2.6-k:

Code:
# ethtool -i eno1
driver: e1000e
version: 3.2.6-k
firmware-version: 0.4-4
expansion-rom-version:
bus-info: 0000:00:1f.6
supports-statistics: yes
supports-test: yes
supports-eeprom-access: yes
supports-register-dump: yes
supports-priv-flags: no

From the following Link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000/files/e1000e stable/

e1000e driver version 3.2.6-k seems to be dated around 2015 but driver version 3.4.0.2 (dated end of 2017) lists "...

Initial support for the following devices:
Ethernet Connection (6) I219-LM
Ethernet Connection (6) I219-V
Ethernet Connection (7) I219-LM
Ethernet Connection (7) I219-V ..."

... and there's added additional later NIC support and "TX Hang" fixes in later versions with the latest driver version being 3.6.0 which was released on 2019-09-22.

So, is there any reason why the e1000e driver being used in Proxmox/Debian is so outdated?

Thanks!

Thanks!

This is the version in upstream kernel, so it's not outdated. maybe only the versioning is not following the same than intel.

I have maybe found a fix, from this thread:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205047

They have revert with this:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linu...5&id=d5ad7a6a7f3c87b278d7e4973b65682be4e588dd

I'll try to see if I can backport it on pve-kenrel 5.3 and make a deb for testing

Can't we just get a driver pack instead of a whole new kernel?
Intel Corporation 82578DM Gigabit Network Connection - Proxmox doing the same thing for me, the eno link down. I am not sure how big of an interruption it is, luckily it hasn't affected my streaming yet.

The deb I have sent is really only for testing, to known if it's fixing the bug or not.
if it fixing the bug, I'll sent the patch to proxmox devs for inclusion in official package.

Linux is not working that way ;) So yes new Kernel is the way to go there

Has anyone tested this yet and any results they can share?
@spirit - Could you provide details of the patch along with how we would installed the patched kernel to test?
It's only a backport of
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linu...5&id=d5ad7a6a7f3c87b278d7e4973b65682be4e588dd
for 5.3 kernel.

Still waiting for somebody to test it to known if it's fixing the bug or not. (don't have hardware to reproduce)

it's already included in kernel 5.4, and proxmox have official build since last week:

so if you can test it, it could be great :)
