We migrating small single server setups to use the new Proxmox Backup Server as opposed to in VM backup software.
Previously we used backup software within the VM to to block level backups that would do a image type backup to a local storage drive, followed by a backup to a physically separate NAS. The software we used allowed for two methods of achieving this.
1) we could setup a back to local drive first and upon completion the backup software would copy the new backup files to the NAS, this would save time for block level backups as the block comparison would only be run once for the initial backup
OR
2) we could setup a chained back whereas two separate backup plans were setup, one to the local drive, and a 2nd plan to the NAS. However the software allowed us to chain the backups, so if we scheduled the local backup first, upon completion (regardless of error), it would start the 2nd plan automatically. This removed guess work out of how long backups would take.
We would like to achieve something similar with the new Proxmox Backup Server. Right now the PVE backup options require us to guess at start time is we don't want overlap issues. The quickest method I could see for implementing this would be adding a Name field and the option to chain backups within PVE. Name and schedule one job and then setup a 2nd and with the start time dropdown having a "After Backup Job XXXX" option.
Outside of waiting for a new feature to be added to either PBS or PVE is they any suggestions to achieve what we are looking to do?
