Hi,

We currently have an environment that runs on Proxmox 4.4 with ceph Hammer, we want to upgrade it to Proxmox 5.2 with ceph Luminous.

In our test environment we first upgraded Ceph Hammer to Jewel, that upgrade was successful and the cluster is healthy.

Now we're trying to upgrade Ceph from Jewel to Luminous, but we have a problem. If we download and install the package from http://download.ceph.com/debian-luminous/dists/jessie/main/binary-amd64/ the package is to new because the only version they have available is 12.2.8 and that ceph version will not work with Proxmox 5.2.

After that we tried to download Ceph Luminous from http://download.proxmox.com/debian/ceph-luminous/ but we discovered that Ceph Luminous is only available for Debian stretch. But we currently run Proxmox on Debian Jessie. And according to this article https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_4.x_to_5.0 we understand that we first need to install Ceph Luminous before we upgrade to Debian Stretch with Proxmox 5.2.

Is there an place or archive were we can download Ceph Luminous for Debian Jessie? And is it true that Ceph Luminous 12.2.7 the latest version is that is supported by Proxmox?

Thanks in advance.

Okay thanks for your information.
We will wait for the Proxmox update.

Just out of curiosity is there no other way to upgrade now?
Because we cant seem to find a old repo from Ceph that wil work on Jessie?

With PVE 5.x we made the decision to package ceph ourselfs. Well, the packages are on the repository under pool (just checked), but seem not to be in the package file anymore. But a manual install/upgrade (local repo) should still work.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Currently we are in the running to upgrade our environment from Proxmox 4.4 with Ceph Hammer to 5.2 with Ceph Luminous.

But now we have the same problem as we have a few months ago:

The problem is that we are unable again to locate the right packages for Ceph Luminous 12.2.8 to install on Proxmox 4.4 that is based on Debian Jessie. In the Ceph repostitory (http://download.ceph.com/debian-luminous/dists/jessie/) we are only able to find the current release of Ceph, 12.2.9 but as far as I know that release is not supported by Proxmox 5.2. So we need the Ceph version 12.2.8, but we are unable to find that version. And under pool we are also unable to locate the packages for Proxmox 4.4 Debian Jessie.

So could you help us finding were we can download Ceph version 12.2.8. for Proxmox 4.4.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris,
read the wiki: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Ceph_Jewel_to_Luminous
You change the apt-source with sed and don't change the server - so the jessie ceph packages are from ceph.com! If you updated your ceph, you can update to pve5.2 later and due this upgrade, the ceph-packages are came from pve.

BTW. From Hammer you must first upgrade to Jewel! (and change all file-permissions)

The packages are still there but sadly not referenced in the Packages file. Ceph 12.2.9 not released (containing a blocking bug), so you would need to wait till 12.2.10 is out and upgrade then. As soon as it is released, we will create new packages for our repository too.
