Hello,
I'm not really sure if this is a Proxmox or Windows problem, but as I see this as a more friendly community, I would like an opinion on this.

I've installed 2 w2k8 servers (and two fedora's), When I try to use the CD/DVD with more MS software on the windows server, Windows tells me that the DVD is in RAW format, and therefor obvisously empty. It's NOT associated on more than this one server.
The DVD I got from MS, and if I try the very same as I installed from it's same problem.
I can't install more software on my server, which render it almost useless, so I'll apriciate a pointer in the direction I should seek for a solution.

I never had such issues, maybe your CD/DVD drive or the media is faulty? try using a ISO image file as CD-ROM.

Hi Tom,
No, both the DVD and the drive works perfectly well, I had just installed the Virtualmachine from the drive with the same DVD (and I tried some other DVD too),
It all work perfectly well on My Fedora instances.

Just for debugging/testing, what happens if you mount an .iso file.

I know it's of no immediate use to you, but I have never had any problems with this on our Windows servers under Proxmox - 3 of them is Windows 2008 Std. x64 in production use.

hello

The problem were just, that I wasn't aware, that the guest should be rebooted whenever I assign the CDROM to it, at least it's working if I do.
Will this always be the case, and can it be changed?

if you add a cd-rom device to a KVM guest, you need to stop and start (behavior by design). if you just want to change the media, just eject (in the guest) and add the new media on the Proxmox VE gui.
