Hi all.

I finally came around to migrate my first ESXi-host to Proxmox and I'm extremely happy with Proxmox so far. However, I have one significant issue which I really need to sort out before I can be comfortable with Proxmox.

I currently have 5 Archlinux VM's running. acpid is installed and the service is running. I also installed the qemu-guest-agent package and enabled the Qemu-agent option in the web GUI. However, pressing the shutdown button does nothing and pressing the stop button does nothing either. So if I try to reboot or shutdown the proxmox host it just sits there forever trying to shutdown and eventually stop the VM's.

Shutdown tasks return this error: TASK ERROR: VM quit/powerdown failed
Stop and reset tasks return this error: trying to aquire lock...TASK ERROR: can't lock file '/var/lock/qemu-server/lock-102.conf' - got timeout

Any ideas what is wrong here?

Cheers!

Sorta figured it out now. Turns out the qemu-guest-agent isnt running on the VM and I had it enabled in the VM options. If I disable qemu-guest-agent in the VM options then shutdown works fine.

Thank you for taking the trouble to post the follow-up to your own question - it was useful to me at least :)

I have qemu-guest-agent disabled and yet I still have the same issue with the same error message.
`qm stop VMID` is what did it for me.
