Backups to PBS not showing up under VM Backup Menu

Hey everyone,

I've setup my first PBS instance on a TrueNAS VM (bumpy ride but I made it!), so far the experience is excellent. Admittedly, I was a little confused that the PBS was not visible as another "node" in my three node cluster but instead it has a standalone dashboard and login, and it is only visible in the cluster as additional storage and under Datacentre>Backup. This is still better than ESXi and Veeam combo if you ask me, also performs a hell of a lot better.

Ok enough feedback, on with the "issue", or really simply an "observation". I've noticed that I can view backups in the cluster web interface in only two out of three regular places:
  1. Datacentre > Backup (Shows schedule)
  2. Datacentre - Node - Storage Object (PBS) > Content (Shows individual files / backups)
  3. But NOT Datacentre - Node - VM/CT > Backups (Shows nothing, expecting backups specific to the VM/CT)
Is this expected behaviour by the Proxmox team or is this a bug? Obviously I can go to https://pbs1.hostname.whatever:8007/ and see my backups here too, with finer control I might add :) , but it is slightly awkward having to look between two windows when reviewing what has been backed up. Sorry to sound picky, it doesn't bother me, but it did kind of confuse me at first glance. This may also lead to some confusion for some sysadmins because the PBS doesn't display VM names, just VM IDs.
PVE Version: 6.4-4
PBS Version: 1.1-5

Thanks everyone! Great work on developing yet another stellar product Proxmox Team!

this should work, are you sure you have the correct storage selected in the top right combobox? (by default the storage thats sorted first alphabetically will be selected)

No the backups from the pbs are in the storage list. Available to see without having to login to the separate pbs server. The way you were looking was for single regular vzdump backups.

node: pbs-storage -> backups -> listing.....

So if you ever make a second node, just add the pbs server to that node (easy) and you are able to restore.

I am certain, here are two screenshots to prove that my #3 expectation is not happening as expected.
Screenshot 1 is:
Datacentre - Node - VM/CT > Backups OR Datacentre (IDMYS) - PVE2 - VM 105 (WS2016-DC) > Backups

As you can probably see, the listing is empty. However if I go to the PBS for example, I can see four backups in Screenshot 2:
DataStore > Proxmox Backup Storage > VM 105 (four visible backups).

Thanks!

Hi Entilza,

I think you described my #2 expectation, which works as I said:

Datacentre - Node - Storage Object (PBS) > Content (Shows individual files / backups)

What isn't working for me is my #3 expectation, which could be a bug. See my screenshots in my response to dcsapak.
Thanks,

Far right in the backup section (not on your screenshot) there is a small drop down in the header row which selects the backup target/storage.
You probably have selected local, which is empty.

Oh snap you were right on the money! Thank you so much! How did I even miss that?! I hope this thread helps some other unobservant fool like myself haha....

thats the combobox i meant ;)

PS. It keeps defaulting to local each time.. ?
it uses the (alphabetically) first storage that can contain backups (content type in datacenter->storage)
