Greetings everyone,

My colleague and I are on a big project of refreshing our IT architecture. This includes our virtualization cluster obviously.
We decided to set up a brand new Proxmox 6.3 cluster on different Dell servers (mostly PowerEdge R440 but we have older ones). Some of them have SSD, others HDD.

We are wondering about what would be the best practices to follow and which technology to choose. I have to admit that's quite hard to decide, whether to use hardware RAID or ZFS, Ceph or NFS.
I felt ZFS + Ceph would be the best option but I would be curious to hear some advices from most experimented people :)

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
Regards,
Cyp

Generally, both ZFS and Ceph are well integrated into Proxmox VE. But they are completely different. Ceph is distributed and therefore you should have a really good network between your nodes.
Anyway, you can just instsall Proxmox VE on a small disk on 3 of your servers and try out all the mentioned technologies and how they perform on your hardware. Setting up ZFS and Ceph can then be done in the GUI of Proxmox VE.
