2.6.32-17-pve can't see SiL3124 pseudo-raid card

Using Debian 6 2.6.32-5 amd64 everything works out of the box, so I know it's not a hardware issue.

After installing proxmox 2.2 with 2.6.32-17-pve kernel, the controller card and all attached drives completely disappear. I don't see any messages in dmesg output that seem related, and it doesn't even show up in lspci output. I tried loading the driver 'sata_sil24' with insmod and it does load, but doesn't seem to do anything.

Something else that is weird and might be related, is I can't get the pve kernel to boot at all without passing acpi=off as a parameter. Works fine in vanilla.

Any ideas?

Using Debian 6 2.6.32-5 amd64 everything works out of the box, so I know it's not a hardware issue.
Hi,
you are wong - it's a hardware issue, because your raid isn't a hardware raid - it's a fake-raid (soft-raid).
Soft-raids are not supported by pve - if you want to use softraid go for linux md-raid and not such crappy things.

you see your both disks (western digital and seagate) - if you use an real raidcontroller the OS don't see real harddisks - only raidvolumes!

Udo

Hmm my first reply doesn't seem to have gone through, so I'll try again:

Udo you didn't address my question at all. I am fully aware that it's a software raid card (see title) and all I am trying to do is get it to see the individual drives. Yes, dmesg does see two drives in the system because they are connected to the onboard ports served by the nforce controller. I have an additional 3 drives in the system that aren't showing up. Software/hardware raid opinions are irrelevant, the controller should still show up in some form. I don't appreciate the snarky remarks.

If it were a hardware issue then the vanilla Debian 6 kernel shouldn't work at all, but it does. It must be something in my proxmox 2.2 config.
