QEMU[817526]: kvm: virtio: zero sized buffers are not allowed on 7.4-15

Hello Everyone, We are seeing an issue where VMs freeze/crash as it looks like the storage drops out. We have a mix of remote Ceph RBD and ZFS single disk local pools with encryption turned on. The issue seems pretty isolated to SQL 2019 AAG on Windows 2019. The OS disk is on Ceph while the...

    [SOLVED] Undo Resize Disk Possible?

Thanks Aaron, I didn't get to update yet but we found the same command from Ceph documentation and it seemed to work for us. Appreciate your response.

    [SOLVED] Undo Resize Disk Possible?

Hello, Is there a good way of rolling back a resize disk if the storage is Ceph rbd, the VM is Windows, and the space has not yet been allocated to the disk from an OS perspective? The intended future full size of disk was specified instead of the amount to grow it by accidentally. Nothing...

PVE 6.3.6 - ZFS vs Local Directory FIO Performance on NVMe

We have many drives, and many servers, but the fact that the speed is crippled by a factor of 6x, 10x or more seemed like something worth reporting in case we were missing something, and/or in case someone else could benefit from the knowledge - or most importantly - might be able to verify and...

PVE 6.3.6 - ZFS vs Local Directory FIO Performance on NVMe

Thanks for your response. To clarify though as I'm just realizing that I did not include the unencrypted speed, it is the SAME as the unencrypted speed. I see ZERO material change between a ZFS disk with (or without) compression AND with (or without) encryption. All 4 combinations result in...

PVE 6.3.6 - ZFS vs Local Directory FIO Performance on NVMe

Hello Everyone, I would be interested to understand whether anyone else has similar similar results, and what they've traced the issue to. For evaluation purposes we have been testing some NVMe drives in a Proxmox cluster in both Local Drive and ZFS configuration (single disk, Micron 3.2TB...

PVE 6.3.6: Is there support for multiple disk remapping for online live migrations?

Thanks Aaron, really appreciate it. We will test it out next time we need to execute that type of move rather than using an intermediary.

PVE 6.3.6: Is there support for multiple disk remapping for online live migrations?

Not sure if anyone else is using local ZFS pools, and if so, whether they also use multiple or not, but would really appreciate understanding whether multiple ZFS pool re-mappings can occur in a live migration. Thanks in advance.

PVE 6.3.6: Is there support for multiple disk remapping for online live migrations?

Hi Aaron, Thanks for your response. I'm not sure if i'm correctly understanding, or perhaps explaining the situation. What i'm hoping to understand is the following: Source of Live Migration: HostA VMID:100 Disk0: 100GB Local-ZFS PoolA1 Disk1: 200GB Local-ZFS PoolA2 DIsk2: 300GB Local-ZFS...

PVE 6.3.6: Is there support for multiple disk remapping for online live migrations?

Hello, Is there support for an online VM live migration using local disks such that a VM with 3 virtual disks, each on a separate non-shared source host local disk can be re-mapped to 3 new local disks on destination host? The UI seems to only support an atomic move of the entire VM with all...

PVE 6.3.6 Live Migration on ZFS appear to not be completing as expected

It ultimately completed, and it seems like it began the next drive migration while still reporting "deltas???" for the first drive. Not sure if that is actually what happened, but the showing logging with the drive and activity type would be very helpful to accurate convey what is going on.

PVE 6.3.6 Live Migration on ZFS appear to not be completing as expected

Hello, We are seeing an issue with test VMs that we are doing online live migrations for between hosts that have compressed, encrypted, ZFS pools. The issue does not surface with migrations to/from remote Ceph RBD, but does occur with local ZFS pools on hosts when doing live migrations. The...

How To: Enable encryption for local storage in PVE 6.2.4?

We didn't follow one single guide, but rather pulled from a couple of different sources to understand what was required. The overall process was roughly: Wipe all disks but OS Boot ( wipefs --all --force /dev/nvme0n1 ) For each NVMe we ran: zpool create -f -o ashift=12 disk0 /dev/nvme0n1 For...

    Proxmox 6.2.6 w/Encrypted ZFS | Memory Exhaustion

Hello, We have begun experimenting with ZFS encryption on JBOD SSDs and NVMes for certain VMs where Ceph with size=3 would be inappropriate. Each SSD and NVMe is understood and expected to be a single point of failure. Servers are either 768GB or 1.5TB RAM at this point, and periodically...

How To: Enable encryption for local storage in PVE 6.2.4?

Hello, We already have a remote rbd ceph octopus cluster w/encryption, but would like to turn on encryption for some nodes that have local NVMe drives. Is there a good way of enabling encryption for unshared local storage? Am not looking to use arrays at all if at all possible, just single...
