New server configuration - request for suggestions, hints and opinions

I will be running a seperate server for the backup. What would be our suggestions if i had to run more VMs? I know my colleagues - they do have "fancy" ideas, what can be run on the same machine, after it was ordered.

New server configuration - request for suggestions, hints and opinions

Hello, i'm currently planning a server for a new site. Major tasks will be running some (non mission critical - downtime up to 24h is acceptable) Linux VMs / Docker containers and probably one or two Windows VMs (only administrative tasks). I would like to use local ZFS storage. I came up...

High availability with Cluster on two servers via wan

What does "i cant call them directly" mean? You can not send a ping from one host to the other? As both IPs are on a private subnet the speed will pedent on the switch / newtwork connection which is used between them.

SoHo-Cluster - Tips and Knowledge appreciated

Hmpf, you are right. What i wanted to ask: What is more "production ready": zsync, DRBD or Sheepdog? ;)

No, you always have to pay the whole year at once.

SoHo-Cluster - Tips and Knowledge appreciated

Perfect, thank you for your reply. I already had a short look at the Wiki page before but did not realize that it could be that simple. Would you say that zsync is "production ready" or more "production ready than DRBD or Sheepdog?

SoHo-Cluster - Tips and Knowledge appreciated

Hi, thanks for all the Input. Probably pve-zsync can be a solution for me. Is it possible to use a seperate NIC with it, so data Transfer will not "block" the main NIC?

SoHo-Cluster - Tips and Knowledge appreciated

Hi k0n24d, thank you for the Information. I thought that sheepdog is not for production use that's why i did not look any further at it. What GB NIC do you use? Do all three nodes have to be equal or can i use an "old" Server as a third node? Did you follow any howto (and can probably post the...

SoHo-Cluster - Tips and Knowledge appreciated

Hello LnxBil, thank you for your reply. Unfortunatly 10GBE NICs seem to be over my budget (or had i been doing something wrong when searching, i found only Cards > 200,-€) Probably i think to complex. My target is to run the following VMs - first VM: Windows w/ MSSQL-Server (this is the most...

    Bring back DRBD8 kernel module

I'm quite new to Proxmox but for small setups (like the one i plan) DRBD seems to be a good solution. I would also prefer stability (= DRBD8). ;) Regards Macavity

SoHo-Cluster - Tips and Knowledge appreciated

Hello udo, thank you for your reply. Raid0 was a typo, i meant Raid1. Ceph was not the plan (i already sorted that out - too "big" for my usage szenario), it was more like iSCSI for the VMs and NFS for ISOs. My main target is also not a HA cluster - if one node fails i do not need to be back...

SoHo-Cluster - Tips and Knowledge appreciated

Hi, i had been using Proxmox v3 for some testing purposes on an old Fujitsu server and really love it. Now i would like to set up a production "cluster" for our small office. The most important software to be run is a Microsoft SQL-Server. It is suggested to run the SQL-Server on multiple...

Does Proxmox work with HP Proliant SE316M1?

Hi, which CPU / how many RAM do you have installed and how many useres are working on this? I just compared the CPU i'm currently using (Athlon II X2 220) with the CPU installed on one of the SE160M1 i found (Xeon L5520 - in fact there are two of these installed in the server) and by numbers...

Does Proxmox work with HP Proliant SE316M1?

I'm currently using a single server with an Athlon II x2 220 Dual Core CPU running 1x VM MySQL (linux), 1 x VM (Win 10 - doing some calculations - no user access), 1 x VM MSSQL (Win 10 - as test only) and 1 x VM (Win 10 - Remote Desktop). "Working" speed is ok, main bottleneck is the RAM (12 GB...

Does Proxmox work with HP Proliant SE316M1?

Hello, i already checked the Proxmox wiki and Google but could not find any solution. Has anybody running Proxmox on a HP Proliant SE316M1? These can be picked up cheap at eBay as a used server. The Chipset should be an Intel 5520 and they are mostly shipped with a P410 Raid Controller and 2...
