    Force overwrite during file restore

The other day I had a drive problem, so I restored the VM from a 2 day old PBS backup onto another server, before I did that, I took a snapshot of /var/mail using proxmox-backup-client. When I tried to restore /var/mail it complained the files already exist and wouldn't proceed. Is there a way...

One VM won't backup to PBS (debian 11)

I have a Proxmox 7.0-10 server that has 3 VMs running on it, 2 are FreeBSD the other is Debian 11 running mostly email. All 3 VMs were recently moved across from a 6.4.9 server to the new 7.0 server whilst the were shutdown, using ftp for the HD raw image and the .conf files, all 3 are running...

    BTRFS on a single drive

I am interested in using the new BTRFS option in the Proxmox 7 installer, on a single SSD. The installer wants me to choose a RAID level, however RAID is not something I plan to use, it's the other BTRFS features that caught my interest. Which RAID level should I choose for a single SSD setup?

relocating a datastore external drive to another PBS

Is it possible to move a USB external drive, which is currently used for a PBS datastore, from one PBS server to another? Nothing has been encrypted, it's just the PBS it is currently attached to has to be relocated to another site, so I am spinning up a fresh PBS on other hardware hoping to...

    Motherboard replacement and MAC address

When I replace a motherboard in a Proxmox server with an identical model, it wont come back online after power up. Seems that Proxmox detects the changed ethernet MAC address and maps them to unconfigured ethX device. eg. if I have eth0 and eth1 working properly, then change the motherboard...

qcow2 image grown larger than allocated size

I have two vms with drives in qcow2 format that were created to be 80GB each. Over time they crept up in size. The server is on the current 3.4 but the drives were made years ago on an earlier version, maybe even 3.0 vintage. One is now 104GB, the other 159GB is this normal behavior for qcow2...

ZFS boot RAIDZ with 3 SSD

If I make a Proxmox server running RaidZ with 3 same size SSD drives, is it possible to have grub boot on two of the drives for recovery like you could have in a Raid 1 mirror if you copied the grub boot across? I am not familiar with how RaidZ distributes the redundant data. I am just trying...

Proxmox VE 4.0 beta 1 and external VNC

I am getting an error when I try and use the same args, that I use successfully for proxmox 3.4 conf files, in the new 4.0 beta 1 eg. args: -vnc 0.0.0.0:1,ABC123 Gives an error: Running as unit 101.scope. kvm: -vnc 0.0.0.0:1,ABC123: Invalid parameter 'ABC123' So the VM wont start up...

Suspend, copy and resume a KVM VM

I am trying to work out at the command line, how to suspend a running KVM VM so I can ftp a copy to another machine and resume it. Kind of like how the migrate facility does when you have shared iSCSI/DRBD storage, but obviously much slower using ftp. Is there a command line utility for...

Proxmox 2.1 won't install over an existing Proxmox

I am not sure if this is a bug or deliberate. The proxmox 2.1 installer wont install over an existing Proxmox installation, as vgcreate fails "A volume group called pve already exists" and proxinstall fails at line 602.

Move image from local to DRBD storage

Hi do you move an existing VM that uses the /var/lib/vz local storage for it's disk image, to using DRBD for storage? The DRBD doesn't have a mountable file system like say NFS does so I can't do a simple copy. I am stuck.

Backup kvm VM's on 2.1 without using vzdump

I did something really silly. I did a fresh install of 2.1 on a machine and made it the master node on a cluster, then I went to add a second node that had a bunch of VM's already on it, and it wouldn't let me add it with existing VM's, so I thought that can't be right, the master/first node is...

    2.1 master with 1.9 node

Is it possible to run a Proxmox cluster with a 2.1 master and either 1.9 nodes? I have made sure that the VM id's on the master don't conflict with the nodes VM id's. The reason I want to do this is so I can migrate the VM's (all kvm) from the 1.9 node to the 2.1 master, so I can upgrade the...

    Proxmox 2.1 wont format /dev/sda

Neither the proxmox 2.0 or 2.1 installer CD will format a 1.5TB drive I have that has FreeBSD already on it. It just says failed to format hard disk /dev/sda. The proxmox 1.7 installer formats it fine. Once the FreeBSD formatted drive was reformatted by the proxmox 1.7 installer, the proxmox...

    DR setup

I am looking at setting up a Proxmox 2.0 server at a Disaster Recovery site several kilometres away from the main site. The link between the two sites will be modest, about 10Mbps, so that rules out a fast common storage setup. Can a useful cluster still be created over this kind of link? If...

    Post installation adjustments before reboot

When the Proxmox installer has finished and is asking to reboot, is there a way to escape to a shell and make some modifications to the newly installed system before the reboot?

Moving a virtual hard disk from NFS back to local storage.

I have a Proxmox server running a few Linux based virtual machines using KVM only. These machines use an NFS server for their hard disk storage. The NFS server did a kernel panic earlier today and needs to be taken offline for further investigation. What's the procedure for moving a virtual...

    Mac Mini Server 4.1

I have been trying to install Proxmox VE on one of the new Mac Mini Server models (4.1) Ran into a few problems, the kernel that is required is 2.6.35 or later. I manged to get Proxmox VE running on it under the daily snapshot of Ubuntu Maverick server version with the kvm virtualization option...
