    Proxmox backup with iothreads

I've been reading great things about improvements in SSD performance in guests when iothreads is enabled, and after a bit of testing I can confirm that it helps quite a bit. As I understand it, Proxmox backup currently fails on iothreads-enabled virtual disks - is there a plan to resolve this soon?

Testing Kernel 3.10: Marvell SATA controller drops all drives on load

In testing Kernel 3.10 on a new host spec, any time I run heavy I/O against disks on a Marvell 88SE9230 SATA adapter, all drives on that adapter drop (mine is not using mdraid of course, these are for individual backups volumes, but the issue is very similar)...

Areca 1882ix hang after kernel upgrade from 2.6.32-11-pve to 2.6.32-14-pve

After upgrading between these kernels, I am getting 100% io wait and 0 throughput (an i/o 'hang') on my Areca 1882ix SAS/SATA RAID controller card, and any VMs touching that card's arrays also get i/o hangs. Immediately prior to the hang, I get these log messages: Aug 30 01:10:05 vmserver...

Backup to .bin / .cfg files in a folder

Currently, recovering from backup can be extremely time consuming even if compression is not used, as untarring requires input/output of the entire archive. Would it be possible to have a backup mode that, rather than tarring images and config files, places them in a folder instead?

Multi-vm network issues (QoS, I guess?)

We have a node with 7-8 VMs active at a given time, and a major network performance issue (I'm not a network guru, and have no clue where to start): The node's physical connection is 10Mbps to our ISP Each VM is linux and uses VirtIO When one VM is sending data to an internet host over ISP link...

    Redhat patch integrated into 2.6.32?

I believe the 2.6.32 kernel is based off Redhat sources, have the changes in this Redhat bug report been integrated: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=645898 ? Thanks!

    Adaptec 6405 support in 2.6.35?

Our arrays on Adaptec 6405 controllers are not being recognized in the latest Proxmox 1.9 2.6.35 kernel, but work perfectly fine in 2.6.32 (great performance, btw, compared to 2405 which we used before). Is there any way this driver could be added? We much prefer the 2.6.35 kernel. Thanks!

Ubuntu 10.04.2 KVM fresh install, inoperable w/ high events/1 usage due to virtio nic

After install (install process did not have the problem), guest system is barely responsive w/ "events/1" using lots of cpu in top. Removing virtio nic from the config and stopping/starting vm makes everything snappy. e1000 also makes everything snappy. Guest: Fresh Ubuntu 10.04.2 install...

    Wild 2.0 ETA?

Certainly there's no planned release date (as in the wiki), but is there any guidance available, say in the next quarter or two?

    Grub

After installing Proxmox on a new PC (Core i5-760, H55, 16GB RAM, 1TB SATA boot, 4x1TB SATA on Adaptec 2405 for KVM VM logical volumes), it boots to the point where the word "GRUB" is displayed on the screen, but no further. No input at this "prompt" (not really a "prompt") does anything...

Feature request - Option for vzdump to only e-mail if any errors occur

This would be awesome. We're now managing a good number of proxmox servers, and while we could set an e-mail rule in our noc to do this, it would be great to be able to do so server-side...

Allow different compression binaries and configuration for backups

We had great success adding pigz (multithreaded gzip), symlinking gzip to pigz, then turning off --rsyncable in your backup scripts (not compatible with pigz) and adding a cores limit (in our case 2) in your backup scripts gzip command line. This sped up backups dramatically (almost linear...

Migrated Windows VM via qemu-nbd and selfimage, no boot

Proxmox 1.5 w/ latest updates, 2.6.32. Used the following guide: http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Migration_of_servers_to_Proxmox_VE, section "Physical server to Proxmox VE using SelfImage". However, when I try to boot the server, the SeaBIOS comes up, says booting from hard drive, then just sits...

Memory balloon device, other conf file uses

I've been successfully using this via "args: -balloon virtio" in my qemu vm conf files, but I think it makes sense to add it to the proxmox web interface. With this, full storage cache options, and time-skew hacks available in the web interface, I wouldn't have to go into the conf files at...

Time drift in Windows 2008 R2 64-bit SMP

I've been noticing pretty obvious time drift in Win2k8 R2 64-bit (also Win2k8 64-bit), especially when under i/o pressure. Happens w/ both IDE/e1000 and VirtIO/VirtIO driver sets. I see the following RH info on this: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=577266...

Feature request: Tunnel VNC over HTTPS

As of now, you need to forward both HTTPS and VNC ports through a firewall if you have a LAN Proxmox VE server and want to web manage from the outside. HTTPS for the web interface, then VNC for the guest GUIs. I'm wondering how difficult it would be to automatically tunnel the VNC traffic...

Request: Allow cache options to be set for storage

I've found when running lvm on hardware raid (at least in our specific environment), performance seems to be improved by setting cache=none in a vm's qemu conf file on all storage. Would it be possible to add the ability to set cache options in the web interface when setting up a vm?

    vzdump, different compression schemes

Could vzdump be modified to allow for a different compression binary, other than gzip? Ideally, allow for any binary (as long as stdin is supported) and options in the vzdump config file. I'd really like to make use of some of the more modern / advanced compression schemes now available...

    vzdump speed

A couple of questions about Proxmox 1.5 (2.6.32) kvm backups via vzdump: 1) While the log shows that vzdump is limited to 10240 KB/s, my lvm snapshot backups finish with speeds ranging from 10.19 MiB/s to 22.39 MiB/s. Given some flexibility to convert from KB to MiB, 10.19 seems about right...
