Proxmox Cluster from 5.1 to 5.4, eventually to 6.0

Hello, Just thought I would give a little update to this as I hate leaving unsolved threads. I took the advice above, one host at a time. I moved all VM's to a spare host, used the "apt update && apt dist-upgrade" commands to update the host from 5.1 to 5.4 which went smoothly. The cluster ran...

Proxmox Cluster from 5.1 to 5.4, eventually to 6.0

Thank you, do you think I may come across any issues when adding a node running pve 5.4 to a 5.1 cluster?

Proxmox Cluster from 5.1 to 5.4, eventually to 6.0

Hello. I am looking to upgrade a production cluster of 8 nodes without restarting the virtual machines inside them, I do not use any form of Proxmox failover/fencing management and storage is NFS completely separate to the cluster. I read on the Proxmox docs that to get to 6.0, I first need to...

    vzdump hanging

Hello, I am running proxmox 3.4.13 and am having issues with two virtual machines hanging on vzdump. Storage is LVM over iSCSI INFO: update VM 115: -lock backup INFO: backup mode: stop INFO: ionice priority: 7 INFO: creating archive...

    SSD / RAID question

In my experience with consumer SSD's, I set the SSD's to JBOD on the hardware raid controller and software raid-1 SSD's as unless you have an expensive/new raid card you may have speed/support issues. Also I tend to leave 10-20% of the SSD free to allow for dead blocks as you wear out the SSD...

    Slow vzdump backups to NFS

Hello I am trying to backup virtual machines (LVM over iSCSi storage) in online mode but they are very slow. I have tested storage, network and cpu performance but can not work out what it is. I have a dedicated machine with 22x 300GB SAS disks in raid 10 when I test with DD (if=/dev/zero)...

    Node icon showing offline

It is hard to say now as it healed itself some how but I do also like to leave an answer here if I do fix something as I hate it when people ask for help and then do not post how they solved. But earlier today: I did run pvecm status and clustat and both were fine. I did not test multicast...

I have left this for a few hours and it seems to of resolved itself. I am not sure how or why.

    Node icon showing offline

Hello, We recently added a 4th node to our cluster but had some issues due to us using our own wildcard certificate which I resolved by restoring the original cert on all nodes and then adding the node. But the issue I am now having is that the icon is showing as offline on "queenie" and the...

    a VM to monitor traffic

We use ntop, installed on each proxmox node and then we use a NetFlow/sFlow collector. We also use PRTG to monitor the uptime of all our nodes, storage and virtual machines using snmp protocol. PRTG will send us SMS messages if a server goes down or using too much resources.

    Proxmox with Synology iSCSI Performance

Hello and thank you for reading. Currently we have a cluster/ha/fencing of 5 identical Proxmox nodes running roughly 20 virtual machines. Each node is an IBM x3650 M4 with 512Mb Cache and BBU with Raid 1 SAS drives (just for OS), bit overkill. We store all of our Virtual Machines on a Synology...

    HA Failover and resources

Hello, I have been running Proxmox for roughly two years now in production, know it quite well and working very well. We are currently putting together a new improved cluster of 5 nodes together with HA and fencing which is all up and running perfect in our office test rack. Is there a way to...

    Ceph and SSD's Questions

Thanks Rob, I have not played with this yet but what if I had Proxmox installed in 2x SSD Raid1 and also used that for Journel or does the Journel need a dedicated disk? EDIT: I think I have answered my own questions with this url for anyone else interested in reading...

    Ceph and SSD's Questions

Thank you, we already have a 16tb qnap with 2x1gbit LAG, We use this for media/isos and backups. We do have a issue at the moment with our current setup that vm's slow down or even pause all together during the backup but this may be down to us just using 4x 1TB SATA Raid 10 for vm storage.

    Ceph and SSD's Questions

Hello, thank you for any advice in advance. We are planning on deploying a minimum of 3x hp servers (dl180 25sff) and using Ceph storage over 10gbe which will not be far off what is outlined here http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Ceph_Server . We plan to have a pool on sas drives for low...

    Suggestions for fencing setup?

Sounds like your going to need a machine to manage them... not ideal... id seriously suggest the ap7920, they act as a machine themselves with their own IP, API and CLI.... and there are already fencing apps around to manage the apc too...

    Suggestions for fencing setup?

I use the APC AP7920/AP7921 (Got a couple on ebay for £130 each), these are great for fencing as you can instantly power off and on... good for remote DC management too... Only difference is 20 is 12Amp and 21 is 16Amp Rich
