    Proxmox installation via PXE: solution

Ugh, I hate it when I'm that wrong. I had just booted it to the cd boot screen and assumed all was well. Thanks for the correction. So you DO have to still run the script to generate the special initrd.

    Proxmox installation via PXE: solution

Everything written below is wrong. Ignore it. ...Todd I just wanted to follow up for anybody who stumbles across this thread. You do not *NEED* to run the script I posted earlier to extract the kernel/initrd and rebuild it with the iso in it. User 6opo9a's question above was such a...

Is Proxmox VE working with DELL Poweredge R320 Server?

This is actually booting via a PXE boot system. I've used it to install Proxmox 2.2 on around 25 machines with no issues, including several other R320's. These are two brand new R320's from the same batch of R320's that were already installed via the same method. The more I work with this...

Is Proxmox VE working with DELL Poweredge R320 Server?

We run Proxmox 2.2 on all of the above machines (860's, 1950's, R210, R210 II, and R320's). I have two machines that just boot the installer to a blank screen. CentOS 5.x installed on one with no issue. Troubleshooting now.

Cannot create a snapshot of the pve-data lvm?

This error is hitting me too. There are 13 machines in this cluster, only 3 of them are doing this. The others all seem to be ok. Before I take steps to fix this, I want to fully understand what is happening to cause this. It's not impacting service at this point. 12 of the 13 machines are...

VMs Are and Node Seem Ofline but Running

Dietmar, the OP wasn't clear in his post, but the restart does work properly. It just lets you know that it didn't find a running program to stop, then it starts it properly.

VMs Are and Node Seem Ofline but Running

We have a 13 node cluster of Proxmox 2.2 (installed a couple weeks ago) that was doing this. When we did a restart of the pvestatd service, it was in fact dead. I changed the mirror to use ca (Canada) instead of us (U.S.) and did an apt-get update && apt-get -y upgrade. It did upgrade the...

Proxmox VE 2.2 Update Error (Invalid Signature)

Re: Proxmox VE 2.2 apt-get Update Error (Invalid Signature on Debian ftp mirror) I just wanted to +1 this. For some reason the US mirror causes this GPG error when doing apt-get update. I changed it to use the Canada mirror and it worked just fine. I have sent an email to the Debian mirror...

    vlan stability?

For the record, the trunked port has been working wonderfully for us.

    Proxmox installation via PXE: solution

I just wanted to mention that the script creates a PXE bootable initrd for 2.2 as well, since I just ran it, deployed the images on our PXE servers, and tested the PXE boot. I did, however, make one small change to the script to handle multiple versions of proxmox iso that are found: if [...

    vlan stability?

Sorry that was unclear. In my verbage above: 1. Bonding meant port trunking (using multiple network connections in parallel to increase the link speed beyond the limits of any one single cable or port, aka link aggregation.) 2. When I said trunking, I meant Ethernet trunking (carrying...

    vlan stability?

We have used Proxmox 1.6, 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, and 2.1. In all prior installs, we simply assigned a switch port to a single vlan (access mode) and assigned an IP to a vmbrX (bridged to the appropriate ethX). We are now testing the configuration of the switch port in trunk mode and bridging vmbrX to...

    Proxmox installation via PXE: solution

I wanted to add that I am using Dell PowerEdge R210's, but with 8 GB of RAM and local disks. The Dell machines just seem to work with little to no issues, I just make sure that the virtualization features of the CPU's are enabled in the BIOS.

    Proxmox installation via PXE: solution

I wrote a little script to be able to do this quickly in the future. Sample output: [root@dump02 /]# build_proxmox_iso_initrd.sh /download/Proxmox/ Using proxmox-2.1.iso Mounting iso image Unmounted iso, extracting contents of initrd... Added iso, creating and compressing the new initrd...

    Proxmox installation via PXE: solution

I experienced that same error this morning when I was setting up PXE boot for Proxmox 2.1. That happens because the first thing the installer tries to do is start up X, and since you've told it to go into a lower res mode than what the installer wants, it just aborts. (I agree it would be nice...

    Strange low performance issue

I had something weird happen yesterday that will describe to see if anybody else recognizes this symptom. We have a Proxmox 2.1 server with a very low workload. There are two openvz containers running CentOS 5.x, and there is one KVM vm running Win2008. This is an 8 core machine with 16G of...

HOWTO: PXE boot a KVM guest

Hi all, I just wanted to post a quick note about how I got PXE booting of a KVM guest working on Proxmox 1.9. The only requirement is that you already have a PXE server configured and working. If this procedure is common knowledge, I apologize in advance for taking up your time. Go to...

from syslog: "Use of uninitialized value in concatenation"

IIRC, this was also printed out when doing a pveca -l. The memory usage showed a raw number in scientific notation instead of a percentage being used. But I was in a hurry and working on something else at the same time, so I didn't document it. My bad.

    migrate 1.9 openv container

On a 2.0 Beta install, I install build-essential, which pulled in a bunch of packages. Then I installed all of the suggested packages (which included "autoconf") except for a couple of doc packages that apt-get couldn't find. Once done with that, I installed git and cloned pve-cluster...
