I'm using spice remote-viewer to open vms on a proxmox 8.1 host.
I can't seem to find a way to access the headless host.
The only graphics card is passed through to the windows guest along with the keyboard and mouse.
Is there a way and if not what is recommended for running a graphical host...
The summary data for the host show io delay at nearly 100% constantly, but iotop doesn't show any significant io.
All vms and cts are stopped. All external drives are disconnected but the summary shows an almost solib block of blue.
mem usage is down to about 24% and cpu hardly tops 1%,

I have 1 snapshot on my device which takes 4.21 hour on zfs and 4.30 hours on xfs.
In both cases verify of that single snapshot takes over 20 hours on zfs and 17 on xfs.
Is this normal, how is this possible and is there any way to improve this setup?
Also, even opening the log in the task...
Hi,
I'm trying to create a cheap 2nd backup and experimenting with different filesystems.
I creates a zfs with a new usb3.0 14tb wd Elements (passed badblocks test).
zpool create -o ashift=12 -o feature@encryption=enabled \
-O exec=off -O compression=off -O dedup=off \...
One specific vm always causes the io to start thrashing at 90%.
As soon as the backup job starts, everything slows until it finishes.
It has a small 30G sdd on a host zpool 10 array.
It was imported from an old vbox long ago and there doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with it.
The sdd is...
When viewing the summary page of the host node, only hour shows now. If viewing a greater scope like day, the most recent data is not shown.
Unless I miss my guess, center seems confused about UTC and local time.
Most of the benchmarks I've seen here have a much higher zstd de/compression speeds.
I'm trying to understand why mine look so low.
What are some areas to look at that could help my performance?

When deciding to apply an update it's very helpful to see the changelog, especially when a reboot or restarting a service is involved.
Often, particularly with pve kernel changes, a changelog isn't available and specific changes are difficult and time consuming to locate.
This kind of process is...
Everytime I power off or reboot the win11 vm, the whole host goes down.
The only work around I can find is to not passthrough the gpu.
The vm currently uses a hook script to unbind and rescan the pci device.
This all worked without problems until kernel 5.15 and then I had to introduce the...
Why does the backup need to run the hook scripts that intialise the gpu?
How can claiming the gpu hardware be relevant to creating a backup?
I guess it's complicated as the backup doesn't know about such things, but is there a workaround?

When a vm with pre allocated hugepages is put to sleep, the memory isn't kept and it can no longer be booted after a while and backup fails too.
Normally, it runs fine from boot concerning huge pages and no issues present, but if I shutdown or sleep and leave it for some time, it won't restart...
Mounting a snapshot causes a task to be created in pbs. 7.1.
Once the snapshot is unmounted, the task isn't stopped and has to be stopped manually.
In my configuration, I have pve 7.2 and pbs 7.1 installed in place.
I noticed a Reddit post mentioning the same behaviour but can't find anything...

Is there a way to specify that a specific directory in a container should be stored encrypted while the rest is stored unencrypted?
Even better if I could use different keys on different directories.
What's going on with this?

I've been getting slow performance with my drives, especially backups.
Maybe it's just because they're TB drives but I thought I'd look into it and see if I can improve things at all.
This is what I came up with:
