PM 3.1 Clustering - Reinstalling after master node failed

Nevermind. Fixed it. Was an entry in /root/.ssh/known_hosts on the older node that was causing the problem. Removed it, and then manually ssh'd to the new node, creating a new entry. Now it works great. Thanks Myles

PM 3.1 Clustering - Reinstalling after master node failed

I thought I was through the woods on this, but not quite yet. So I have successfully re-installed PM 3.1 on my server, and added it back to the cluster. It has the same hostname & IP as before, so it is now showing up as part of the cluster. I am now trying to migrate VMs from the temporary...

PM 3.1 Clustering - Reinstalling after master node failed

Thanks to everyone. I got it working. The problem was using a hostname rather than IP address of a member node. Myles

PM 3.1 Clustering - Reinstalling after master node failed

Yes, but in this case the server was originally part of a cluster. The disk array died, but I was able to migrate all VMs off it before I had to wipe and re-install. Now I have wiped and re-installed, I want to re-join it to the same cluster it was on before. When I attempt to do this with...

PM 3.1 Clustering - Reinstalling after master node failed

Something interesting... I wiped the server that I am trying to add to the cluster and re-installed PM 3.1 on it. All fine. Servers back up and running now. But there is no sign of clustering on this at all. Attempting to addnode to the cluster is failing. When I look in /etc/cluster there...

PM 3.1 Clustering - Reinstalling after master node failed

Ah, you might have just solved my problem. I was under the impression that a cluster had a master node and all children join to it. Since we normally create the cluster on a master first, and then do an add node on the children, it suggested to me that it had some form of hierachy to it. Are...

PM 3.1 Clustering - Reinstalling after master node failed

I have a PM 3.1 cluster that has about 5 node members. On the weekend, the master server for the cluster died and we had to wipe & re-install PM on it. Its back online now, but its no longer part of the cluster. I did a cluster create on it, and that's done. But none of the child nodes are...

    Cluster across VPN?

Thanks for the information. It certainly sounds like what you are saying is correct, but your instructions are specific to OpenVPN. We are using IPSec for this, through IPCop v2 firewalls with a Net-to-Net link. I'm not sure how to translate your OpenVPN instructions to an IPSec VPN setup...

    Cluster across VPN?

We have two data centers - about 2,000 miles apart. They are linked together with a Net-to-Net IPSEC configuration, and have their own subnet addresses for the internal networks. Each can see the other. I can ping from either data center to the other without issue. I have a cluster...

Looking for a Proxmox mentor to assist small organization to upgrade a Proxmox instal

Re: Looking for a Proxmox mentor to assist small organization to upgrade a Proxmox in Again, you are blaming the wrong people for your problem. PM works great, and if you stay with 1.8 you are going to be in a world of hurt in terms of security vulnerabilities and ability to support newer...

Looking for a Proxmox mentor to assist small organization to upgrade a Proxmox instal

Re: Looking for a Proxmox mentor to assist small organization to upgrade a Proxmox in OK. I think you've answered your own question then. To repeat: Windows is a PITA. Windows is not free & open source. You are restricted in terms of migrating it based on the license you have. You can't...

Looking for a Proxmox mentor to assist small organization to upgrade a Proxmox instal

Re: Looking for a Proxmox mentor to assist small organization to upgrade a Proxmox in This wouldn't have anything specific to do with Proxmox. You'd get the same behavior if you were running VMWare, etc. If you move a license of a Windows server from one hardware environment to another, and...

Are there any Web APIs (ie. REST) for PMVE?

Just curious... Are there any published REST APIs to the Proxmox VE servers? I'd love to develop some monitoring & management systems that are not relying on the PM Web Interface if I can get access to function APIs for interrogating the status of one or many PM VE servers.... Is this...

Proxmox 2.2. best Disk format for windows 2008

Having spent the last couple of days grappling with different versions of PMVE & Windows Server (2003 & 2008), I can say that disk speed has been the biggest challenge. I think that the most important thing here isn't so much about the file format, but that you install Virtio disk drivers. At...

    Unified PM monitoring?

We have about 15 PM servers running at 3 data center locations. Most are PM 1.8 and since some of the data centers have colocated servers and are remote (ie. 1,500 miles away), we don't get to the site location regularly. We have had no major issues with PM VE. Most of our guests are OpenVZ...

New 2.2 install fs type ext3 or 4

There were some acknowledged speed issues with ext4 in older kernels for PM with KVM/Windows guests. It has something to do with the way that the VirtIO drivers work with ext3 vs. ext4. Google about this if any of this applies to you. It may have also been resolved in later PM/kernel updates...

Home server project. (Questions regarding storage setup)

Firstly, check the hardware RAID compatibility for PM VE. That caught me off guard before. A decent brand RAID card is important here (ie. LSI, Adaptec, etc.). There's a page on the Wiki with a list of adapters that have been tested. Once you have a RAID setup in place, PM just sees it as a...

ProxmoxVE Hosting Provider for the US

Not really sure about this. I don't want to rain on your parade here, but colocation is really cheap in the US and you really want to compete with the likes of Rackspace, Amazon and now DELL in this market? They'd be able to eat you alive in pricing for this. If I needed a PVE server, I'd...
