It *does* matter if you run ZFS on HW-raid or not! And it is not just about some features missing. ZFS was designed from scratch with intention of having direct unrestricted (unfiltered) access to underlying hardware (hdd/ssd). Having ZFS on top of HW-raid means in the worst case you might loose...
