Proxmox or VMWare, would like to get some more arguments

From wiki: Docker can be integrated into various infrastructure tools, including Amazon Web Services, Ansible, CFEngine, Chef, Google Cloud Platform, IBM Bluemix, HPE Helion Stackato, Jelastic, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Microsoft Azure, OpenStack Nova, OpenSVC, Oracle Container Cloud Service, Puppet...

Proxmox or VMWare, would like to get some more arguments

Yes it is, and I'm running it, but it is not integrated in PVE. You have one interface for KVM+LXC, but different one for Docker. This makes management at best sub-optimal. BTW, it is at least questionable if it is "the best" to run Docker inside VM. When running directly on host, it can...

Proxmox or VMWare, would like to get some more arguments

vSphere/ESXi: + lightweight type-1 hypervisor + very low memory/disk footprint + docker + imho better web-management for single host (embedded client) + runs from memory (can be installed on sd/usb) + better pass-through functionality - steap learning curve - not so stable (I had quite many...

    Install /root on usb

Now I'm not sure what your problem is. You *can* install proxmox on zfs/raid1. Installer takes care of bootloader (will be on both disks) and the only thing you have to do in bios is to set up boot order so that both disk1 and disk2 are in it (does not matter which order).

    Install /root on usb

I do not recommend it. Low-end usb-sticks (~90%) die within a few months if you use them for os-disk. Some time ago I was using a high-end usb-stick (with SLC-nands), and it died suddenly after one year, after a few hundred r/w-cycles...

secure webinterface - change port 8006 proxmox 4.4

Quite bad example, as web-server can consist of many interconnected services as well. Still I do not think replacing four hard-coded values with values from config-file is somehow complicated. Maybe the same way as you know which node listens on which ip/fqdn? I do not remember saying...

secure webinterface - change port 8006 proxmox 4.4

A lot of work to pull one number out of perl-script into config-file? I did not check the code yet but I doubt it can be so difficult. But ok, you are dev... As for the rest: I completely and utterly disagree. Moving service from standard port is signifficant gain contributing to security...

secure webinterface - change port 8006 proxmox 4.4

That's really "smart" solution! Any reason why PVE-devs are so stubbornly refusing to unlock this configuration option?

secure webinterface - change port 8006 proxmox 4.4

This is still NOT possible? Users still have to get around this by using proxy/preroute? Can't believe it...

100% swap usage on machine with 50% free RAM

Having 500GB ram and 8GB swap does not make much sense. Swap can not be used effectively and gets filled up very easily. Either get rid of it altogether, or set up some serious size...

LXC on ZFS is failing MARIA-DB after a day

11/segv is segmentation fault. Does your DB has enough of RAM?

[SOLVED] What is the better solution - Swapping on host, or swapping in the VM?

RAM is cheap, so try to avoid swapping, that's the best you can do. But if you have to, then I'd recommend to do swapping in VM only, not on PVE-host. Why? If VM is swapping, it is aware of it, and before it comes to it, VM-os will try to reduce memory-footprint (depending on its...

Is there a way to convert from non-zfs root to zfs root?

There is a way to convert ext2/3/4 in-place to btrfs (see "man btrfs-convert"), but only if you used your disks "directly" (not as part of hw-raid array)...

True, but usually for VM which writes 400GB/day you do not use disk just 400GB big...

    Unable to install 5.0b1

Usually it is enough to wipe just a few sectors (i.e. "dd if=/dev/zero of=dev/sdx bs=512 count=10"). I would not recommend to wipe the whole SSD as this is decreasing remaining number of rewrites (which especially in case of TLC-nands is not very high anyway)...
