the correct solution for nested would be more inline with this:
https://www.jeffreykusters.nl/2018/05/22/vlans-vxlans-ospf-nested-vmware-homelab/
the same principals still apply for all hypervisors.
not sure if i remember reading why you need this to work in Hyper-V is it just for testing ...
It might have something to do with promiscuous mode of the network not allowing for additional encapsulation of nested network packets for different vLans.
This is a VMware link but would assume the issue is the same on Hyper-V or with any nested hypervisor...
Ok but does this just mean that the cluster should be created before adding shared storage otherwise the VM config needs to be backed up and restored on the single node if cluster is created after Vm’s Already exist on node.
Have I summarised correctly ?

That’s ok I totally understand that only HA allows for Vm’s To be migrated live and fail over.
Can you please point me in the direction of the correct documentation to be able to run Vm’s Both locally and on shared storage on the same host.
Obviously only the Vm’s Running
On shared storage...
I will thank you.
Appreciate the heads up on the cluster add.
Is there a way to run VM’s both locally and on shared storage?
I just assumed it worked in a similar fashion to VMware where both local and shared storage can be used at the same time and when adding a host to a cluster no config...
Hi Wouter
Hope you don’t mind if i chime in with some questions.
Are you keeping the physical host in the same DC?
Are the VM’s on the host allocated an IPv4 public address?
I’ve never seen a public address allocated to a rack they are normally allocated to a DataCentre location and are...
Hi Alwin
Little confused can you please go into more detail with your response.
What is the restriction with local storage when in a cluster?
What happens if a node was running VM’s and then this node is joined to a cluster what happens to the VM’s?
I haven’t tested this in our setup yet so...
Hi Stoiko
do you or have you used Check_MK?
Or was it just for testing?
We are currently looking for an open source alternative to PRTG which we currently use for our VMware environment.
We have a new business starting up which is focused on supporting open source solutions and unfortunately...
To be straight up i personally like simple.
The simpler a feature is, the better it works!
There have been way too many issues over the years with over complicated features from VMware what are hard to track which mens hard to fix.
VXlan by design ticks all the boxes we are looking for and...
Hay Mate
we do use NSX in our VMware deployment.
NSX Edges and NSX master.
What NSX features are in the planning?
We are looking at an alternative to NSX Edge devices still trying to work out the best option for users at this stage no solid ideas - have been looking at Opensense and Pfsense...
Hi Spirit
thanks for replying :)
thats cool and as mentioned i'm super happy to wait, have lots of experience with VMware VXLAN and am very aware of the intricacies of the technology and how it functions, no rush to manually start down a path which could end up in down time at the end of the...
Hi Spirit
if doing this manually will Proxmox pick up the config once its in 6.1?
I'm patient and can wait if its slotted for end of year or even early next year, would prefer to get it right from the get go for a smoother roll out.

Hi Team
what's the recommended way to monitor PMG?
We where going to download and setup SNMP to monitor CPU, Storage, Memory from PRTG or other monitoring system.
Are there any recommendations or does PMG already have a monitoring system or SNMP setup?
this is a preliminary question to start...
Hi Christian
Was wondering if you’ve tested this in a PMG cluster and if all the backend changes are copied across to the other cluster nodes?
“”Cheers

Hi dcspak
Thanks for replying.
I’m not concerned with high load that’s a different issue and not mentioned in my post.
I’m not 100% sure what VMware vSphere uses for its HA apart from using data stores as a witness.
The issue we are facing atm with vSphere is why I’m posing this question to...
Hi Community
We run a VMware environment and seeing some issues with HA failing to detect a host issue and move VM's to functioning hosts.
This has prompted my question today about how PVE manages hosts that have partially failed and are not 100% responsive but responsive enough to respond to...
Interesting I thought oVS was a requirement for vxlan, is this not the case?
We are a VMware house and vDS is the same as oVS with vxlan overlay.
I’d be interested to do some testing with the setup when it is released for sure :)
So are you part of the ProxMox team or is this a side project...
That’s very cool!
At the moment we are still in testing phase with PVE but something keeps always coming back to “Keep IT Simple”.
It may be that oVS could be enough to get the job done.
With over 4000 vLans available that’s a lot of clients on a single cluster that can have a private...
Hi Christian
Yes this is fine.
You can define in the Read.me notes that DNS and other items in config files marked with ###comments### should be changed.
Don't waste your money on a test domain just use example.com and set a static entry in your .hosts file to point to example .com locally...
