It works!!! Thanks Udo!
So after all, Proxmox 3.1 normally recognizes a qcow2/raw and won't let you boot if it's wrong. However, I've...
I just found out a Server 2008R2 VM is also affected by this.
All the affected VM's have been migrated from Hyper-V to Proxmox 2.3 some time ago (I did "qemu-img convert disk1.vhd disk1.raw -f vpc" when I migrated)
Some extra information:
The config on the old server has "qcow2", but actually it's RAW. The PVE 3.1 version won't boot if we keep the disk name "qcow2" so we changed the config and moved the VM disk to change the name from qcow2 to raw.
If I start with Gparted, I do see the disk but it's...
Hello,
We have installed a new 3-node cluster with the latest PVE 3.1
We moved allmost all VM's to the new cluster, however we noticed 2 VM's have problems with the boot drive. The VM's are both Server 2003. When I try to boot the VM on the 3.1 cluster, I get the error "Not a bootable disk"...
Re: PVE Admin user show only user VM's
Ah I found it... I had to create a pool and add PVEVMadmin permissions to the user + /pool/poolname.
After that, I can login as this user and create VM's without seeing all other VM's.
Remeber to select the pool when creating a VM, else you get a...
Hello,
How can I create a user that can login, create, manage and delete their own VM's. This user should not be able to see all other VM's located on this cluster.
For now, I have only managed to create a user that can use specific data/backup locations and manage VM's that I give access to...
Hello E100,
LVM is working with flashcache now. It can now create snapshots when the pvscan shows /dev/mapper/ssd.
However I found a problem...
How can I make sure my flashcache script shuts down after Proxmox forced all VM's to shutdown?
If I don't unmount Flashcache, it will give a kernel...
Flashcache with writethrough has passed all my tests (power failures, RAID degration/rebuild etc.). Writeback however is very risky, it corrupts data easily and has problems with rebooting on Debian 5/6 and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (12.04 works fine out of the box).
So I use writethrough for production...
Without Flashcache bonnie++ gives me 400 IOps. With Flashcache, it gives between 5000 and 10000 IOps. Depends on the SSD speed and RAID or single SSD.
Sequential write speed is sometimes slower because of the RAID penalty on the SSD's. Sequential read is very fast, specially if it's cached on...
Flashcache on bootup is too risky, so I will reinstall my server with 2 MDADM RAID sets, 1 for OS and other for data.
Thanks for the info, I will try it next week.
Hello e100
This is my history:
43 apt-get install dkms build-essential git
44 git clone git://github.com/facebook/flashcache.git
45 ls
46 cd flashcache/
47 ls
48 make
49 make install
50 modprobe flashcache
After this, you can create a flashcache device...
Hello,
I use flashcache to speed up my storage. It works great, however I noticed that VZDump can't make a LVM snapshot.
This is my setup:
MDADM 4x 2TB eco disk in RAID5 = /dev/md0
MDADM 2x 160GB SSD in RAID1 = /dev/md1
Created a LVM VG "PVE" on /dev/md0
Created a LVM LV "DATA" =...
Hello,
I have a server with 2x8 core AMD and 128GB memory for around 60 Windows VDI's, a firewall and a fileserver. It has 8x 1TB 7200 SATA disks in RAID10 (hardware).
The server is really fast and the back-ups work fine, however there is 1 problem.
My fileserver crashes every time a VZdump...
I don't see how this could make both drives die in the same second.
I use Samsung F4EG (green ones). These work fine in alot of other (non-supermicro) systems, even in MDADM soft-raid.
I will soon be able to analyse my system. I will try other disks first, so I can check if it's the same problem.
My disks didnt have any LVM. After the first problem, I tried to use RSYNC instead of snapshots.
I had this problem before with a normal tower server. The RAID10 with 4 disks (LVM proxmox) did snapshots to a 2TB back-up disk internally. Every week the disk somehow crashed. I solved it by going...
Hello Udo,
The VPN tunnel works, however I'm unable to connect with other VM's.
This works: datacenter X -> openvpn (10.10.1.2) -> datacenter Y -> openvpn (10.10.1.1) -> all networks (10.10.X.X)
However, this doesn't work: Datacenter X -> Test VM (10.10.1.101) -> openvpn X (10.10.1.2) (can't...
Hello Daveo,
I thought I resolved it by rebooting the server and checking the cables, however it crashed again after a week.
I'm going to migrate all VM's to a new server soon, so I will be able to analyse the problem.
At this moment the server is too important to play with, so I create...
