Quick update:
Earlier I was issuing a "reboot" command from within the VM, this time I issued a "shutdown now" and when it came back up (thanks HA), the memory reporting was accurate.
However, the CPU is still reporting 5-8% usage when internally the debian guest begs to differ at 0.3%.
Thanks,
Hi Everyone,
Running a standard Debian VM with a webserver and qemu-guest-agent, I'm wondering why PVE sees ~6-8% CPU usage when the VM is idle and the VM itself internally sees 0.1-1.8% while idle. Here are two screenshots showing PVE GUI and VM Top or htop at the same time to better...
Nevermind, I figured out the issue. If you reboot the PBS VM, it will return to normal and register with the cluster. If there are other suggestions, please feel free to add them.
Hi Everyone,
My local Proxmox Backup Server stopped networking for some reason (possibly a driver issue?) while running as a VM under BHyve, so I issued a systemctl restart networking and things returned to normal. However, the Proxmox Virtual Environment cluster now shows the PBS repository as...

"20% single thread improvement, +30% per core improvement"
Hah I'd like to see Intel do that. Supporting PCIe Gen 5, seems a bit ahead of the curve compared to our current selection...
Oh yeah hey I was just reading about that:
And Power10 came out this year. 30 cores, 120MB L3 still, 4GHz still, so I'm not sure what to expect from the performance, compared to the Power9 of 2017 but it is half the die size (7nm vs 14nm).

If they aren't ready, then they just aren't ready. I believe in the quality that the Proxmox team puts into their products, and I'm happy to wait for a quality product, especially one that you're proud of. :)
Oh! OK neat thank you!
Looking now I see that there is also a child directory called "active" which I'm assuming will temporarily contain the log output of any running tasks.
Good morning!
My newly updated PBS 1.1-13 system encountered an error last night regarding log rotation. The root disk is 64GB with not much used, and I don't see any obvious issues.

Gotta love new hardware options! I'd still rather see the current exceptional proliferation of features being released on a select few architectures rather than fewer features with a wider selection of architectures. One day ARM and RISC V will get there, as long as there are occasional...
Ok no that's fair actually, my thoughts were surrounding PBS in particular, but given that they likely share many backend systems including the network configuration menu/system, that should come as no surprise to me. Thanks for following up so soon, have a great day TL!

When editing the network configuration in the Web GUI, does that not edit the hosts file automatically? If it owns its own name record then why wouldn't it update the IP and the domain name resolution?
Thank you for your explanation about how the banner is generated and your patience with my...
HI everyone,
This could easily affect more than PBS (e.g. PVE) without me having seen this behaviour before, but PBS 2.0-10 welcome banner on console is stating the old/original IP that it was installed with. After moving it to a new physical location on a different network, on a different...
Hey Fabian,
Ok I actually quite like that idea! It changes how I perceive the structure a bit too. My original understanding that an off-site server pulling from an on-site server would simply mirror the on-site server and not have to do its own garbage collection. I've since setup garbage...
Thanks Fabian!
Do you know how I could go about seeing the logs in the cli? I've tried using:
proxmox-backup-manager task list
proxmox-backup-manager task log [UPID]
but then I'm connected as a client and I'm no longer given a prompt until I abort ( [CTRL]+C ).
Thanks again!

Hi everyone,
Every time that I issue a sync job and wish to view the task window, the log is blank and the status tab shows the attached error (Bad Request (400) parameter verification errors parameter 'upid': value may only be 128 characters long). After the sync job is done, and I got to...
I once thought that this was silly, but I've since come to realize that a MacOS client would benefit multiple clients of mine. Currently they use Time Machine (old and imperfect), or Duplicati (unstable and slow). If a MacOS client were made, even if it was CLI and shipped with homebrew...
Hi Everyone,
Perhaps I've missed something in the forum or in the manual, but is there a way to reduce or limit the number of backups sent to a remote PBS?
For example, say my on-site backup server had 8TiB and was used for A LOT of backups, but my off-site was say 4TiB usable, could the sync...
