Yes it does indeed end there. that is true. My script uses this since years. Will check back if that helps/works. Thanks so far @fabian and @Fabian_E

[SOLVED] PVE Manager does not start - no obvious reason found

Hello guys, hope your doing fine. I am having an issue which I am trying to track. I am not successful in finding a solution. Since a few days my upgrade of the PVE host failed. I have decided to do a reboot since kernel upgrades were pending. After the reboot pve manager is not started. VMs...

Backups from iSCSI backed LVM very slow

Are you sure that your interfaces are actually syncing with the correct speed? That smells like a 100Mbit interface somehow...

Backups from iSCSI backed LVM very slow

I am not sure about all the options, as my FIO experience is very low. I was using IOmeter for my tests. However the value "iodepth"=1 actually means that there is an individual IO in the queue. When that is confirmed the next IO is generated. At least that his how other Test-tools are working...

    Smart errors

To me this indicates a defective device. I'd try to swap it. However this also can be an interop issue. Pending sectors are always bad...

Backups from iSCSI backed LVM very slow

Often there are OS-specific things needed to get some decent performance. While the gap seems huge I have seen some very weird things in the past... PVE is a Linux, so maybe this document van help...

[SOLVED] vm running rsync hangs proxmox

Keep an eye on the cache size / usage. If I am not mistaken these 2.9 GB should be the upper limit and this indicates to me that your 8GB limit is not honored. I have not booted my rig for a while and could be mistaken but I think if there is a limit specified, this should be the upper boundary...

Reduce ram requirement/usage due to having ZFS

Real hardware raid is something i have abandoned for a long time. One reason was that those systems do depend on, hardware. So as long as you don't use raid 1 with 2 disks: if your raid controller dies, you need to have the exact same model to have a chance to get your data back. Raid 5/6 is a...

[SOLVED] vm running rsync hangs proxmox

Make sure that your ARC-limit is honored. I have had some issues with this in the past. My system has 32 GB arc limit and it should look like this then: sudo arcstat time read miss miss% dmis dm% pmis pm% mmis mm% size c avail 13:57:02 0 0 0 0 0 0 0...

[SOLVED] vm running rsync hangs proxmox

I am using rsync as well and never saw these kind of issues. How large are your filesystems and how many files does rsync need to handle? I only saw issues with memory consumption on fsck running out of memory (1gb memory per 1TB disk was a good value for me) but never on rsync. Since you are...

After creating ZFS mirror IO delay is high

Likely the USB ports share some bandwidth. For one device bandwidth etc is sufficient. For two obviously not. Usb IMHO is not suitable for ZFS.

Passing through Hdds with qm set command

Sorry I did simplify things a bit. Imho: Technically the cable connects the drive cage (backplane) with the main board which allows communication of the idrac via its BMC (Baseboard management controller). However what is important and what you can see on the picture (that's why I have pointed...

Passing through Hdds with qm set command

This seems to be the cable that is responsible for the communication between the drac and the chassis: https://www.itinstock.com/dell-0g95p6-g95p6-poweredge-r720-server-backplane-power-and-signal-cable-63324-p.asp

[SOLVED] Windows 10 VM and Single Drive Passthrough

Yep. It is as it would be physically connected to one host (which is a VM). That can work. I have no experience with truenas. In this case the disks are not 100% passed through. These are "mapped" into the guest. So no smart values are accessible for instance. There is another thread which is...

Passing through Hdds with qm set command

If that would be the case then ZFS would seriously be broken. On a scrub all data is read and compared against the checksum. If that would not detect issues I don't know what else it was for. If that does not make you confident OK. I am fine with it. This looks to me some in and or sideband...

[SOLVED] Windows 10 VM and Single Drive Passthrough

I think this is a misconception. If you have passed through your controller to truenas (as I understood) then there is no way to use it outside that VM except if you do so via a share. So technical this is your only option from my perspective. Assuming the windows and your truenas machine are...

    VM shutdown on host shutdown.

Ah OK. Thanks @fabian . its been a while since I have configured this :)

Passing through Hdds with qm set command

I have not made any performance Tests but for me in a ZFS mirrored pool and a backup server for special purposes I can confirm this works without issues. Regular scrubs don't show problems either. I only can report that the disks still are monitored on my host. So I am tempted to say it works...

Passing through Hdds with qm set command

if you have dedicated bays you can likely add a dedicated HBA for them as well? That might be an alternative to your external DAS approach. What makes me curious: aside the fact that the HDD identification within the VM is more difficult - why exactly do you insist to have SMART values within...

    VM shutdown on host shutdown.

this is not standard. You need to configure this. In each VM under "Options" you can specify two things: - Start at boot - Start/Shutdown order The order takes a numeric values and is handled forward (1, 2, 3, 4 etc.) on start and on reverse (10, 9, 8, ...) on shutdown. Of course you can put...
