Hi Everyone,
I'm about to deploy a sizable CEPH environment for proof of concept purposes and I want to consider benchmarks vs real world usage. Therefore, I have a few clarifying questions that I don't think my shiny PVE Advanced Certification answered:
What counts as an RBD client in PVE...
Not to wake the dead or anything by responding 7 years later, but you can do a lot of things to specify NFS traffic... That being said, any interface that has an IP associated with it will generally permit corosync to communicate in PVE. It will automatically select the lowest latency link, so...
Occassionally, I notice this happens and it persists VM reboots... Any other solutions? One that has worked for me is shutdown, resize again, boot up.
Thanks,
Tmanok
Hey Proxmoxer,
Fair enough, if you've got it running easily enough with ZFS then great! I've continued the other thread with Fabian to see how far we can push this and then submit a ticket to implement it in the GUI. Flexibility and feature strength are really important to me too.
Cheers...
Hi Fabian,
Thanks for the response, can you clarify what you means by "where 'script' is set to the path of the executable..."? Which executable are you referring to (please provide an example)?
Thanks!
Tmanok
Thanks, Fiona! I'll keep that in mind while planning. Would be a small nice to have later on down in the future to have virtual resources accessible to multiple pools so that we don't need to make wacky permissions and maintain them so much.
Have a great day,
Tmanok
Hey PVE Staff and Users,
Are there future (or current) plans to deploy PVE using Ansible? There are official scripts for Xen, VMWare, and RedHat on HPE Systems for example. https://github.com/ansible-provisioning/ansible-provisioning/blob/master/README.md
Thanks,
Tmanok
Hi Everyone,
I noticed recently that virtual guests can't be members of more than one resource pool at a time. Am I misunderstanding this limitation?
Thanks,
Tmanok
Excellent! I'm glad there are variables for this that the cluster can interpret. With the scripting complexities mostly tackled, now we just need to solve the task hookscript.
Cheers!

Hi Dunuin,
You're right, that used to be the case but it isn't anymore. Here's a quote from Fiona in the linked thread that you started:
"this doesn't happen. For VMs, disks that were excluded from the backup will not be wiped upon restore. They will be left as unused disks still containing...
Hi Fabian,
I'm wondering if there are PVE Node hooks in the backup tasks? @promoxer has an interesting problem that I'd like to consider a possible solution for: Backup a single VM disk per backup task.
The outline of the solution in my mind would look like:
Create multiple backup tasks...
Alright, wait start here regarding your backup questions. There are some caveats to backing up and restoring still right now but they are being actively worked on by PVE staff: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/feature-request-advanced-restore-options-in-gui.109707/
The summary from that thread...
I will spend some time later this week to try and document / support you with this, in the meantime I have two comments and one question. Links in the near future, but help from @Dunuin would be appreciated.

When I recommended that you study ZFS carefully, what I intended was that...
Technically you could get metrics through GRAPHITE or InfluxDB but I agree, updating spreadsheets containing current VM configurations and resource allocations in the GUI would be exceptional for automating our documentation work.
+1 for this feature. Thanks Hannes!

BBGeek17 is right, if you are going to share LUNs even to your PVE hosts you need a locking file system that presents the storage as a mounted directory. Some examples of this include GFS2 and OCFS2 which I have used successfully in the past and really like.
I'm not sure I understand why or...
Hi Promoxer,
You can backup individual disks in the GUI and restore them individually if I'm not mistaken. Then you detach from the guest that's broken and attach to a guest that you prefer. Some of this functionality is improving in the GUI (there are feature requests being actively worked on...
