Is there a way to run fsck on a linux vm? As I understand it, the vm can't be running because the vm's system disk has to be unmounted before checking it with fsck. So I'm thinking I have to leave the vm shutdown. Can I fsck the vm's disk from the Proxmox console?

Good morning all! I'm having problems with an Open Media Vault VM on Proxmox and am seeking advice on how to debug the issue. I have an OMV 6.0.latest VM running on Proxmox 7.4-3. The OMV VM is configured to serve up multiple CIFS shares. The harddisks behind the shares appear to be working...
I'm hoping to add a custom screen resolution for viewing the console of a VM. The VM is running Ubuntu 23 MATE, and I'm currently using NoVNC for viewing. I have the VM configured as follows...
I tried adding a custom screen resolution (1624 x 960) directly into the Ubuntu VM, using two...
I don't think it's VM related. In looking at the backup log, all VM backups have been very slow. Never more than 4-5 MB/s. And they've all been in a stopped state, except for the first one.
Thanks for the quick response.
No ZFS.

Good morning all. I just rebuilt my Proxmox server after a hardware failure (bad SSD). I'm up and running again witn Proxmox 7.3-1. I'm running into an issue with the backup function. I started a backup of 5 VMs last night. As of now, 12 hours later, it has still not finished! No errors...
Thanks for the clonezilla idea. My Proxmox node is running on 2 SSD drives. The proxmox system itself and a handful of VMs are stored on the first SSD. The rest are on the second SSD (which is developing hardware errors, BTW).
I'm in disaster-recovery mode, and have a question. My Proxmox node (v6) no longer recognizes some of its VM's, and I wish I had newer backups. If I try to create backups, I just get error messages.
Can I do something like this...
1) From Debian, copy the contents of my VM logical volume to...
Hi everyone. I'm getting an error message when I try to create a VM: Check of pool satassd/data failed (status:1). Manual repair required!
I tried running lvconvert --repair pve/data. However, this gives the error: Active pools cannot be repaired. Use lvchange -an first.
So, I ran lvchange...
Is it possible to shrink the size of a thin-pool? I need to extend the pool's metadata LV, so I want to reduce the data LV to make room. Right now, the data LV is leaving the PV and VG with no free space.
Can I do this with lvreduce? Is there a file system on the data LV that I need to...
Thanks for the reply. I tried running fstrim -av. It still doesn't open up any free space in satassd. Am I doing something wrong?

Okay, I've discovered the importance of setting that "discard" flag on VMs when using an SSD, which for some reason is off by default. Apparently, I've used up all my space without realizing it, because nothing was ever deleted.
How do I clean up the previous "deleted" files so I can get my...
One (newbie) question... for step 7, how should the disk be initialized? Should it be unformatted or have a filesystem? EXT4? Does it need any partitioning?
Thanks,
Eric
Thanks for your help. I'm not sure why the volume group says its full. I have plenty of space there and can create new VMs in it. Perhaps I didn't set it up right? When I initialized that SSD, I created it with one large single partition that filled the available space. Should I not have...
