I am wondering whether it is possible to switch the graphs on the summary pages (like CPU load etc.) to a more granular view. The smallest unit I can choose is hour but I would prefer to have a realtime view, if that is possible.
So - is it possible?
I have a three node PVE cluster running with a few VMs.
One of them, I back up every two hours.
And every time the backup runs (and completes successfully) the dirty bitmap from the previous run is - allegedly - invalid and is cleared. And so the backup (currently shy of 600GiB) takes...
so I have a four node PVE cluster (the fourth node for experiments only and is offline most of the time so that a quorum is maintained).
I just installed a new PBS and wanted to backup one of the VMs to it.
But when I start the backup, I get this error:
- [Node4]: Node is offline
I am running PBS as a VM on PVE.
And I am trying to pass through a SCSI controller to this PBS VM. Actually this works, so the controller is passed through and shows up when I type lspci.
However, within PBS I can't see the tape drives connected to it anymore.
Before passing through the...
So one of my VMs suffered a harddisk failure (the contents were, in principle, all backed up via the PBS client).
During the restore process there was a broken pipe error and the process stopped before it was complete - so not all files have been restored.
I would like to rerun the...
So I have been seeing errors in the Tasks pane of my PVE gui recently.
Combing through the log I found the following line in there:
ERROR: Backup of VM 202 failed - unable to find VM '202'
The thing is: While it is correct that there is no VM 202 (and also no CT 202), no backup scheduled for...
I have a PVE host with a ZFS pool on which I had created two virtual disks for VMs (zpool/vm-101-disk -1 and zpool/vm-103-disk-0). Since then, I have replaced those virtual disks with other virtual disks in a dataset (zpool/dataset/vm-101-disk-0 and zpool/dataset/vm-103-disk-0)...
So I have set up a PBS to which my PVE backs up alls the VMs and LXCs (and one of the VMs also backs up via the backup client). The datastore is daily backed up to tape (a tape library with currently 5 tapes organised as a media pool).
Since I was still experimenting and trying to figure...
I just ran a new backup via PBS backup client which - for reasons I still have to investigate - failed.
2021-10-08T12:36:23+02:00: starting new backup on datastore 'tx13303enc': "host/nextcloud/2021-10-08T10:36:23Z"
2021-10-08T12:36:23+02:00: created new dynamic index 1...
I just noticed the following in my syslog
Oct 07 19:43:48 pve kernel: IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): vethb7f577f: link becomes ready
Oct 07 19:43:48 pve kernel: br-857733caeccb: port 3(vethb7f577f) entered blocking state

I have a VM running under PVE that stores a lot of data that I want to have encrypted at rest.
On the PVE host, I have created a ZFS pool and inside that pool an encrypted dataset.
So now I would create a virtual disk on the ZFS pool and add it to the VM.
But how do I make PVE create...
Is it possible to have separate backup jobs (at the PVE level) for individual disks attached to a VM?
I have a VM running that has four disks attached to it. I would like to back them up (to PBS) individually, as they might fail individually and contain unrelated data.
MY guess is that...
I used to have my ISOs on a NAS. But now I want to replace the NAS with a virtual fileserver. The fileserver is up and running and also registered as storage in PVE. But I can't find a way to move the ISOs between the NAS and the fileserver storage (like I can move, for example, a VM's disk...
I am transitioning from backing up to a NAS to backing up to a PBS.
Since yesterday, I have two backup jobs scheduled every night. They both are to backup the same VMs/LXCs - but starting at different times.
- Starting at 1am to the NAS
- Starting at 2am to the PBS
The backup job to the...
I am struggling with a backup job that takes "forever" (the disk that is being backed up is large - but mostly empty).
Unfortunately, not only does the backup take forever, while it is going on, the VM is "frozen" (backup is configured as snapshot but I read that, since the guest agent is...
I have set up a VM with a passed through physical disk.
When I back it up using PVE's backup feature (to a PBS), it seems to backup the entire physical disk although the disk is still mostly empty.
Is that normal/expected?
If so, how I can avoid this, i.e. only backup that part of the...
So I have a virtual PBS running inside a PVE.
I have allocated 2GB RAM to the PBS VM. Qemu-guest-agent is installed and working (memory is not hotplugged).
PVE shows "Memory usage 1.86GiB of 2.00 GiB".
PBS shows "RAM usage 575MiB of 1.94 GiB".
Why do the numbers not agree?
