Hi,
I'm running PVE cluster on 6 nodes.
In total 2 different server models are used, but all are from Lenovo.

In the server configuration I can define 3 types of server timeouts:
  • OS Watchdog
  • Loader Watchdog
  • Enable Power Off Delay
I read here that by default all hardware watchdog modules are blocked for security reasons.

This raises the following questions:
  • Which watchdog module should be used? ipmi_watchdog?
  • Which software packages must be installed? ipmitool? freeipmi-tools?
  • What is required to ensure working communication for OS Watchdog?
  • How can I check which watchdog is enabled/active? ipmitool mc watchdog get?

THX

hi!

Which watchdog module should be used? ipmi_watchdog?

looks like the best option for your lenovo servers, idk if they have their own thing (dell and hp do, for example), so generally ipmi should work as long as you have support for the regular ipmi interface.

Which software packages must be installed? ipmitool? freeipmi-tools?

you just need to enable this[0]. no need to install any extra packages, should be all in our kernel.

What is required to ensure working communication for OS Watchdog?

should be enough to edit the config as mentioned.

How can I check which watchdog is enabled/active? ipmitool mc watchdog get?

yes.
