Hi,
I was wondering if someone could shed some light on about a cluster on VLANs. Is it really necessary to have the servers on VLANS for the Cluster? I was reading some say on a physical NIC others say the firewall can manage it but not sure if its necessary.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Hi,

I don't know what you really mean.
The cluster network at Proxmox VE uses multicast and this is latency sensitive.
So if you need to make sure the network is working properly. For example, if you use the HA service, you should be able to ensure that the network always works in the required specifications.
VLAN can make the latency problem even worse.

Thank for the reply, your right it has to be dedicated i though i could VLAN. And its a must to have a 10gb connection

And its a must to have a 10gb connection
Only if you have the storage on it.

Corosync needs only 1GBit. The latency in 10GBit is better but 1 is fine for it

I use VLANs ,and vlan_aware interfaces, but don't have HA.
Currently it's working okay with 5 servers in cluster.
