[SOLVED] LVM Error? Cannot boot

I'm not sure when or why this error started appearing but it never prevented a boot, so I figured I could safely ignore it.

Kernel version:
proxmox-ve: 5.1-43 (running kernel: 4.13.16-2-pve)
pve-manager: 5.1-52 (running version: 5.1-52/ba597a64)




For the sake of search engines I'll write some of it out:

Found volume group "pve" using metadata type lvm2 /sbin/modprobe failed: 1

Can't process LV pve/data: thin-pool target support missing from kernel?

After updating to the latest kernel Linux 4.15.15-1-pve, Proxmox cannot boot:



So, for the moment, I'm running off the older kernel.

Does anyone know how I can fix this relatively gracefully?

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet rootdelay=5"

Try to set the rootdelay in grub.

EDIT: update-grub afterwards

I added the rootdelay but I'm still getting the same boot error.

But you can boot now and the root is active? The thin-pool 'data' should be load after boot also.

Yes, I have to use the older kernel 4.13.16 to boot.

With kernel 4.15.15 it will not boot.

I just upgraded to the latest packages as of today and the host can boot again.

Hi,
im having a similar issue,
except i CANNOT boot into proxmox after i do a 'dist-upgrade'
fresh install of 5.1 (couldnt get 5.2 iso at the time)
it installs 4.13 kernel, then dist-upgrade which installs 4.15, reboot the server and then gets stuck on boot?
however i am UNABLE to use an old kernel to load either
only way around is to reinstall?
