Hi all,

We installed a new server for a customer.
Specs:
CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2630v3 (8C with HT)
RAM: 64 GB
Disks: 6x Samsung 850 PRO's in Dell Raid 6
Proxmox 3.4-6 (native install)

It has 5 virtual machines
1 Pfsense firewall
4 Windows Server's (1 DC - 1 SQL - 1 Application - 1 RDS)

The company has 15 users with Thin Clients.
The RDS is a problem. It had from install 4 cores assigned with 4gb of memory. In perfmon it spiked every time a user logged on so we changed that to 16GB memory and 16 cores (with numa)

Now it does not spike anymore, but it still is laggy which is not fun at all.

So, solutions? Switching the cpu-type to host?

Has it something to do with the cpuflags? I read something about the enforcement flag in proxmox 4.0 (beta)

So your help is really appreciated :)

Sorry, I can not solve your problem. Only one hint:
Disks: 6x Samsung 850 PRO's in Dell Raid 6
Hope you enlarge or manually set a over provisioning for your SSDs. Otherwise they will be very slow in a short time. The Dell Raid Controller blocks all ssd flush commands from the host system. So there is no "real" delete on your disks. Regards, Erik

You mean an unpartitioned area? So the SSD's can burn their blocks away?

Where do you get latency? Is this the disk backend or is is cpu? Can you post some screenshots?

The graphs were all fine. But when you started word/excel , it took minutes for opening something simple as an office program.

We went crazy that day, so we tested it on another proxmox test machine (without ssd's :( ) and found out that if you change CPU-type to Host, it just did what it needed to do. being fast and steady. Customer satisfied, we are happy.

So thanks for the support everybody! :)
