I use Proxmox on one home server, and I have several drives, a powerful CPU and a 2.5Gb network in it. On Proxmox I have several virtual machines and containers with different software (like databases, media servers, etc). On a daily basis I work on my workstation where I have vmware workstation and several virtual machines installed. I would like to create block devices on my Proxmox server and make them available to the virtual machines via iSCSI protocol. And on the Proxmox I would like to be able to backup these iSCSI disks/devices.

How to do this? Does Proxmox make this possible?

Proxmox is a Hypervisor. What you want to do is a function of Storage Server.

That said, you are in luck - Proxmox is using Debian Linux as an underlying OS. You can find via google many guides on how to setup iSCSI target (server) on Linux.

However, since you are running in Virtualized infrastructure the best practices would be to create a VM that will serve as your iSCSI target. It could be Linux, Windows server or ... . You could also, theoretically, run iSCSI target in a Container, however that is generally more error prone.

To answer your question directly - No, Proxmox Virtualization Environment does not have a built-in iSCSI target functionality.

If you decide to run your iSCSI target inside a PVE VM, you can utilize PBS to backup those LUNs. Keep in mind the data on them will be in raw (non-filesystem) format.
