Management App: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Management_Tools

Look at the line :
Proxmox VE || Open Source virtualization platform for running Virtual Appliances and Virtual Machines || web & cli || active || Bar-metall installer including KVM and OpenVZ management tools

;)

Proxmox VE is a management tool for KVM so your question is quite strange to me. If you do not want to use Proxmox VE to manage your KVM virtual machines, just use another one.

why should we do this?

In order to use PvE with other management tools (such as Abicloud), which would provide manage heterogeneous infrastructure.

I do not understand this argument. If you do not want to use Proxmox VE (which is a management tool for KVM) why do you use it?

If Abicloud or whatever you like is you prefered management app why do you need Proxmox VE?

I want to use PvE (if not I would not post here) !
It was just a question ... ;-)
All other management tools KVM libvirt using ...

Despite better performance with Perl, did you not afraid that it penalizes you one day (I think among other things to integrate in a cloud computing infrastructure)?
PS : It is just a question ... ;-)

PVE 2.0 will have a well defined API, so it should be easy to implement (abicloud, ...) interfaces.

I was asked yesterday to compare Proxmox VE with "VMWare vCenter Lab Manager." I said apples and oranges; I believe Proxmox VE compares with ESXi. So that begs the question (and I hope this is an appropriate thread), is there a "Lab Manager" type of appliance or extension that will manage "virtual environments (labs)" on top of Proxmox VE?

in order to manage vmware ESXi servers you need to install a dedicated vCenter on a windows box with a database. its an extra box (or VM) which needs to be managed.

Proxmox VE (I talk here about the new architecture 2.0) can be managed by accessing just a node (multi-master). Also we got containers as a second options for virtualization. In many situations better suited than full virtualization (like KVM or VMware).

and the by far biggest difference: Open source against closed source.

Thanks Tom. I appreciate the additional resources required by vCenter Lab Manager, but I'm interested in the functionality, not implementation. Are you saying that Proxmox VE v2.0 will compare in functionality and features to the "Lab Manager?" That would be great! I missed that on the Wiki. Do you have a proposed time frame for this?

Thanks Tom. I had already read that. So I guess you saying that I was wrong, and that Proxmox VE (v2) actually does compare with vCenter Lab Manager in functionality and features. Is that right?

I mean that the Proxmox VE 2.x series is by far a better solution for most situations :)

The only issue is that its not released yet ...
