Hi,

what are the differences between Proxmox kernels 2.6.18 and 2.6.24 when using OpenVZ?

I've read both

http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Proxmox_VE_Kernel
http://www.proxmox.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2853

but the exact differences are still not clear to me.

There's written that 2.6.18 is now default and recommended. So why do you maintain 2.6.24 as well? Will you maintain it further? There are some features in 2.6.24 which seem attractive to us (tickeless timer, scheduler etc.) but we'd like to use supported and tested version as well.

Are there any differences when using KVM? We have very few KVM machines as well.

Thanks,

Kuba

In short: The OpenVZ project decided to not support 2.6.24 any longer.

But they provide and support a quite good 2.6.18 kernel, which is based on RHEL. That kernel is extremely stable an has most HW drivers backported. The KVM support is also very good because RH backported all features. So we decided to use this kernel in near future.
