Hello,
Today, I can no longer login with web interface (login failed).
But I can login to proxmox server with putty and access the VM with qm : q stop, qm start ..

The history to come to this problem is the following:
1. my proxmox server was working perfectly for months with latest version
2. I have an automatic backup every night
3. last night the backup locked and never finished. I don't know why since it was working for months.
4. the web interface become very very slow and unusable
5. connecting with putty and using qm, I stopped all the VM
I had to unlock the VM that failed in the backup
6. I rebooted the server and restarted the VM: all work perfectly
6. but now the login to the server with WEB interface failed: "login failed"
7. the login with putty works (so username and password are ok)

Thanks if somebody could help to recover the login to the web interface.

Is the update now finished?
or have you the state befor the backup failed?

Hi Wolfgang,

I updated proxmox yesterday before the failed backup during the night.
Yesterday web interface login was working.

It seems that I have now an authentication problem on the web interface
after last update yesterday
and after a failed backup during the night.

Don't know if the login failure is related to these two events.

Thanks for ypour help

you can try to clean the apt and the install pve-manager

in steps:
apt-get clean
apt-get update
apt-get install pve-manager

install do nothing: pve-manager is already the latest version.

Should I remove pve-manager and install it again without any risk for stopping or bugging the server ?

You can also try to flush the browser catch. If it doesn't work please send the output of pveversion -v

I reinstall pve-manager.
Login works now.
Thanks

BTW: my browser is not happy and asks for confirmation when I try to connect. it shows NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID.
Is there a way to avoid this ?

I will investigate now why the backup failed.

FYI here pveversion -v

I reinstall pve-manager.

Soory to come back again.
I have now access to the web interface but it does not work :
The VM are shown but status is : Name : no name specified.
The summary shows nothing for each VM.
But if I click on "hardware" tab : it shows correctly the hardware options.

Thanks to help again.

And now after a reboot, login failed again.

Problem solved. It works now.

The failed backup was preventing from rebooting. I had the impression that reboots works since my SSH console died. But it doesn't.
Now I hard reboot. Access to the web interface works.
The backup failure was due to lack of space for storage.
Thanks

Login works now.
Thanks

If the node has cluster, is it safe to just remove and reinstall pve-manager via the command below?

apt-get remove pve-manager
apt-get install pve-manager

been getting login failed to web interface also every 24 hours, try restarted all services with no luck. only fixed was to reboot whole node. trying to find a permanent fix and avoid reboot.

thanks
