I believe this is a small issue in the Web Interface.

Issue: On an existing VM with a configured NIC, changing the NIC type does not change the MAC address.

Result: TFTP PXE boot not functioning on network boot.

This is a repeatable issue.

  1. Existing VM with configured NIC.
  2. TFTP PXE Boot works on VM Start.
  3. Stop, change the NIC type then start the VM.
  4. The MAC has not changed and the TFTP PXE boot fails.

Workaround:

  1. Stop, delete the NIC then create a new one from scratch.
  2. The MAC address is created as per normal and the TFTP PXE Boot works.

On changing the NIC type/model, a new MAC address should be created.

Please advise.

Serge.

Do you ever need or want to change the virtual NIC from a I1000 Intel to Virtio, for example?

When I do that, the MAC address does not change and for some reason, TFTP PXE Boot fails.

If I re-create the NIC, it works.

I was under the impression that different NIC model require different MAC address (or at least the beginning of it).
