Hi, I've been struggling to build a windows 7 x64 spi vm with a discrete gpu. Will be a steam streaming server vm.

Vt-D is working, I have another vm with a dvb-s pci-express card perfectly working in ubuntu 14.04.

My hardware :

Asrock B75Pro3(Vt-d enabled)
I5- 3470S(Vt-D capable)
Gigabyte R9-270.

My software:

pvetest repository with latest qemu-server and pve-kvm

In order I have:

added intel_iommu=on to grub.cfg
pciStubbed = video card with audio
added blacklist to module radeon
added allow_unsafe_interrupt parameter in grub(typo)
Installed directX in guest.
Gpu is passed and vm works fine with gpu output connected to monitor until I install catalyst driver.
I've tried from 14.4 to 13.4 drivers but results are the same.
no log information useful in syslog...

The VM goes in an infinite reboot loop:

Bios==> Windows Logo ==> BlackScreen ==> Bios.

I've analysed crash in windows and it says:

video_tdr_timeout_detected

The display driver failed to respond in timely fashion.

Am I doing something not correct?

I had similar issues with the catalyst driver... my solution was to buy a nvidia gpu :/

hi, do you have followed this wiki ?
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Pci_passthrough#PCI_EXPRESS_PASSTHROUGH

(kernel 3.10 - q35 machine model and vfio)

Bought the New 750ti which is perfect in performance and power consumption.

The Gigabyte 750ti black edition runs like a bastard

Hi, I have checked on archlinux forum,

seem that a lot of people have the same problem with catalyst driver.

It could be a bug in kvm module, so maybe try to kernel 3.14 from debian backport or maybe 3.16 kernel.

No other solution for now.

How to install more recent kernel from backports?

will try tomorrow... Finishing kernel build 3.14 with vfio and vfio-vga not as modules...

same results with catalyst and also kernel 3.14 built with vfio and vfio-vga....

Only one thing to try:

Install windows vm

Disabling(not uninstall) gpu adapter so windows recognize gpu

Install catalyst

Hope this works...

Got these info from archlinux thread...

Nevertheless, today will get my gtx 750 TI Twin Frzr and I'll give it a try despite I'm a loyal AMD guy
