Hello there,
We got a production Win8 VM with the hard disk mistakenly created as sata bus, so now I'd like to convert it to virtio bus.

If I simply stop the VM and change the bus to virtio, windows won't boot. In this case one ends up in the windows' recovery/update screen which doesn't seem to have any tool to install/set the drivers.

Anyone faced it before? How can I set/install the driver in this scenario?

Thanks in advance.
Regards, Bruno.

Add a small dummy disk to the VM as virtio. Boot windows. Hopefully it installs the virtio block driver. Shutdown windows. Delete fake disk. Change real disk from sata to virtio. Reboot.

Or simply install the virtio drivers when the VM is booted on the SATA drive. After install you simply stop the VM and change SATA to VirtIO.
