The issues we had were do to a disk failure , and a new sysadmin changing out the wrong disk slot.

This issue still occurs.

We've a win7 kvm that runs fine on a different pve host.

I tried to backup that kvm and restore to the host having issues, and the same problem occurs stuck at : "Booting from Hard Disk..."

Then I tried converting the disk to qcow2 , backup and restore and still won't boot.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Re: Windows 7 KVM's not starting.

restoring to a different pve host has the same issue

This is strange, maybe can you try with disk option = "cache=writethrough", or "cache=directsync".

I have seen this behaviour a long time ago with some 4K disk drives. (what is your physical disk models ?)

Re: Windows 7 KVM's not starting.

Hi Sprit.

I tried the 2 disk settings and those did not solve.

The disks are on a 3ware raid 10 array.
they are WD RE4 1TB

Note we've been using those for a long time.

And the win7 kvm was running on main cluster using those for months with out an issue.

maybe can you check that the volume is not corrupt ?

#qemu-img check /dev/....

the images are stored on nfs . I do not see a /dev file that gets used .

is there a dev file somewhere or should i run qemu-img check on the image file at nfs storage?

qemu-img check reports no errors....
Code:
qemu-img check vm-505-disk-1.qcow2
No errors were found on the image.

If you've more suggestions let me know. Later I'll try some other random things and do more searches.....

Re: Windows 7 KVM's not starting.

The issues we had were do to a disk failure , and a new sysadmin changing out the wrong disk slot.

i'm so sorry, can you please give me more details about this issue, because i had same problem in win7 kvm, stuck at Booting from hard disk....

i use only one harddisk, 1TB, SATA at SATA 0 port.

Re: Windows 7 KVM's not starting.

we have raid 10, and one disk was failing. the wrong disk was attempted to be replaced.. I thought that was the cause of the issue. it may not have been the reason for the kvm not starting.

months after that we found the windows disk was 100% full. it would start on the existing system, but not when the system was backed up and restored.

we re installed the one program we had running on that kvm to a new kvm.
