How many IP are needed for this configuration?

Hello,

I would like to rent a dedicated server and install Proxmox in order to have 2 KVMs each with one IP address.
How many IPs in total are needed to be ordered for this setup? 2? 3?

Unfortunately the Data Center is not very helpful to answer this question fully.

Hello,

If it's signle IP ( not a RIPE block ) 3 addresses are needed. One for the physical server and one for each KVM.

You could in fact do this with only one IP and then configure iptables to NAT traffic to the VMs.

I know, but there was no requirement specified for the need of a specific port number and I was under the impression that the lowest common denominator was requested

Both answers are acceptable depending of course on the circumstances. In my case, in this setup, separate systems are required so the two IPs is a must.

What if I want to to share the host IP with one of the two KVMs? It that possible at all or the host IP cannot be used by any VM? (If yes that would bring the total IPs to two).
