I have pve 8.1 installed on an ML310eGen8. I have 4 HD in a single zfs raid array. The onboard raid is disabled in the BIOS. I also have an SSD plugged into the CD-ROM/DVD Sata connector on the mobo, which is in use for a cache.
I discovered that the system will not boot from the SATA...
I've just re-build my ProxMox box (v8.1.3) and restored some of the VMs and LXCs from my pvebackup server (something I have done sometimes before).
However the resultant VM or LXC does not have a name tag on the web interface for it.
Have attached a screenshot to show it. This has not...
Ok, I'll give up and just re-install and get the VMs etc from backup server. Just trying to avoid the 8-10 hour restore(s) that involves.
Thanks for the help.
I've done the edit and am now struggling to copy the /etc/pve contents to the new server. I've tar'd the directory up and copied it to the running proxmox but I guess because /etc/pve is in use it will not let me add/overwrite.
So I guess I have to run from a USB key (Ubuntu seems to work)...
I've tried it - renaming the pool under Ubuntu:
zpool export rpool
zpool import rpool rpool0
zpool set bootfs=rpool0 rpool0
zpool export rpool0
But when I reboot into pve, the pool is still named "rpool"!
I've installed with the system partition as a zfs mirror. It called it "rpool" which unfortunately clashes with the name of the data zfs pool I already had. Can I rename the boot zfs pool without compromising the boot process?
I realize I'll have to do that with a zfs enabled system booted...
Thanks for this.
How did you image the system disk? Did you manage to do that while connected remotely? I'd normally use clonezilla for that, but it requires local access.
A Colleague has told me he has done an upgrade sucessfully with one VM still running, although his was not the router VM...
I've got the same problem (and the server is in my garage!). In the past I've configured a router/modem and attached that to the network, killed the router VM, altered the gateway address and then followed the update instructions.
However I'd be glad to hear that your technique would work...

I used Clonezilla to create an image and then ran clonezilla on the VM and restored it.
Note the need for mergeide.reg though.
