Read/Write speed in Proxmox VE on the same host. Anyone can help me to understand?

Ok for best performance for a windows 10 VM (my workstation) on a 2 socket * 8 core cpu's motherboard. I enable numa and allocate 4 cores and 2 sockets or 1 socket and 8 cores ? Its a home lab with just me as the user. The server is lightly used as I have a bunch of VM's which I use the...

Read/Write speed in Proxmox VE on the same host. Anyone can help me to understand?

In the guide it states "If the NUMA option is used, it is recommended to set the number of sockets to the number of nodes of the host system" I am confused I thought this meant set the Vm's to 2 sockets if you have 2 sockets on the motherboard ?

Automatically pass through a USB device to a VM when plugged in?

If you passthrough the ports you can plug whatever you want in the guest. However these usb ports will not be available to the host and you can only have one guest attached at a time.

Is ProxMox doing anything after VMware disaster?

Microsoft rely on partners to do support and seems to have worked out ok for them. The PVE team have their perfectly valid plan which is developing the product. This is a clear business opportunity for a partner. This approach makes sense to me.

Usage of QCow2 disk in Proxmox

You do not need to import the file. If using ext4 storage. Create an empty disk qcow of the same size and attach to the vm. Use winscp to open the host and copy across your qcow disk to the same folder eg /mnt/pve/dev-sdb/images/103/Win10Base.qcow2. Delete the empty one and rename your disk...

LSI MegaRAID 9341-4i controller supported in Proxmox VE 8 ?

I have the same issue. I use hardware raid and I am on PVE 7.4. The megaraid drivers on https://hwraid.le-vert.net/wiki/DebianPackages havent been updated so unsure what to do. Anyone resolved this ? Paul

    Perfect Developer Desktop

Rather than turn the PVE into a desktop.I have both a Mac and a win 11 PC as guest VM's together with a debian, file server and mail server guests all set to auto start. The great thing about virtualising everything is if you're using PBS you can backup easily and also reverse changes via...

Windows 10 VM So Slow when cpu type is host

Turn mitigations off if you can ie pve is not connected to internet. Also are both disks on the same storage ? WIn10 is faster with lvm-yhin than qcow2.

    New NVMe Setup - Results!

It would be interesting to see a comparison of a restore if that's available. The difference between the SSD's and the spinning discs should be significant when restoring.

    Proxmox 7.4 and macOS Ventura

Yes it is. Just as fast, if not faster than a windows 10 VM. I am passing through graphics. But its also ok for testing using nomachine.

Can I make the VM shutdown trigger the node/machine to power off?

I have exactly the same setup as you. The trick is to have your workstations i.e. windows and Mac options shut down order to be last with a delay, I use 360 secs. I generally have Windows on a Mac plus a few servers running. When finished for the day I log into the web GUI and shutdown pVE. In...

    Optimizing Guest CPU Performance

Morning, Not quite although I dont know the answer. I just ran the test on a plain vanilla win 10 via rdp (no pass through on this one) on same host with 1 socket 4 cores and only 8gb ram. Single thread is the same. So its not the RDP or the host/cores/numa that is the problem. agent: 1 boot...

    Optimizing Guest CPU Performance

Yes. I did this to solve another problem relating to Adobe software and DragonDictate. Both of these use the Flexera comon software manager and as the VM was virtualised from my original workstation software would crash if you try to use host with a virtual number of cores. It was okay with...

    Optimizing Guest CPU Performance

I have a very similar setup 2* E5-2660. As described above I have set up the Vm to match the host with 2 sockets 16 cores. Results inc single thread are much better. So numa and matching cores seems to be the answer. It also stops adobe software crashing when it does its checking thing.
