Vzdump on NFS slows live VM down

Well, Proxmox is just Linux and the VM to be backed up a number of processes within the server, so I can very well imagine that a backup of the client (which in any case is a heavy operation) can bring the client down or at least make it hang. I'm not a friend of hot VM backups, by the way...

Vzdump on NFS slows live VM down

Did you see this thread in the Ubuntu Forums? large NFS copy locks up/hang client with large files (again) (lucid) There seem to be some good ideas, especially #23 and #72, possibly #55. There is also a reference to "Troubleshooting NFS". As you don't see these problems with local storage...

    VM blocked due to hung_task_timeout_secs

Sorry, I didn't read your post carefully enough. So you tried bwlimit already... I'm writing an answer to your post so this won't drift in the wrong direction.

    VM blocked due to hung_task_timeout_secs

I'm still evaluating Proxmox, especially in the areas of reliability, scalability and performance. In a parallel installation I'm running some tests against a VMware ESXi installation, if required. The I/O problems have occurred in these isolated tests - I'm not yet at a point where I run...

    CentOS7/NetworkManager: Too many netlink events

Thank you! As soon as we build the target architecture an purchase subscriptions, I will raise an incident to the support team. Even though it may not be a problem - after some decades in system management I still dislike error messages ;-)

    VM blocked due to hung_task_timeout_secs

It's Proxmox 4.3-1. I don't see any of these problems on a native server, nor in an ESXi VM. I tried now with R/W> limits and R/W max burst of 150MB, but there are still unaccountable peaks in one of the tests. They don't show in the graph, but in atop I saw I/O busy rates of more than 400%...

    CentOS7/NetworkManager: Too many netlink events

Hi Fireon, Thanks for your reply. Do you also use the VirtIO NIC emulation? Cheers, Thomas

    VM blocked due to hung_task_timeout_secs

I'm well aware that this is a fairly old thread, but as I ran into the same problems while evaluating Proxmox, I think this is the best place to publish my solution ... if it's not common knowledge and best practice yet, but anyway: Using the Phoronix / OpenBenchmarking test-suite pts/fio, I...

    CentOS7/NetworkManager: Too many netlink events

I'm evaluating Proxmox with CentOS 7 VMs, and I found some strange messages in /var/log/messages: NetworkManager ... platform-linux: Too many netlink events. Need to resynchronize platform cache I googled for this error message, but there is nothing useful to be found. I tested in parallel...
